I got this sorted... there was a differnce in the terminology in the Admin console of my router. I figured it out and not port 80 is forwarded and Remote access is working
Categories: Networking and Remote Access
I have been unable to get Remote access to work on my EX495. Every time I have the server attempt to configure the remote access the process fails on the last step of the set up process. = "Verifying that your remote website is available from the internet."
A little background about my network...
The Modem: Arris TM602G/CT
I'm a Comcast Triple Play (Internet, Cable, Telephone) subscriber in Marin County. There is an Arris TM602G/CT Internet, Cable and Phone Modem in front of my entire network.
I've called Comcast about this device and they say that there are no settings to configure in this box and no ports are blocked. It should just pass the internet traffic to my router or PC behind the Arris box.
The Router: Leviton LV03FFBA 10/100 4 Port Internet Gateway
Plugged into the Arris box is a Leviton Internet Gateway Model LV03FFBA running firmware Version 1.1 Release 31. It divides my Internet access amongst 4 computers...one of which is the EX495. It has UnPn capability (its on), and it has a firewall which I've turned off when I try to set up Remote Access. It also has port forwarding capability in a section of the router config environment called "Virtual Servers"
When I try to forward ports 80, 443, and 4125 to my HP SmartHome Media Server, ports 443 and 4125 seem to forward with out a problem and show up in the Port Forward table. However when I try to save the port forward settings for port 80 I get an error that says: "Error. Data could not be saved, internal port has an invalid value, valid range is 1..65534".
Its interesting because in the internal port field I have the number "80" which one would think would satisfy the range requirements of 1 to 65534.
So I am thinking that this could be the reason that I cant get remote access to work. Another clue is that after an unsuccesful attempt at configuring Remote Access there are usually to additional port forward settings in the "Virtual Servers" table, one for 443 and another for 4125... but none for port 80. As I suspected it looks like the port settings for 80 are not able to be changed by me or the server.
Anyone have any idea what the issue could be?
