Here is my setup..

HP EX485 (v 2.5) w/ 2x 750GB Seagates and 2x1.5TB Seagates

Comcast Cable
Linksys WTR54G v4

2x 2009 13" Macbook Pros (OS 10.6.1, one also has 10.5.8)
Late 2008 15" Macbook Pro (OS 10.6.1, XP SP3 and Vista Business)
iBook G4 (OS 10.5.8)

All I get is the MSS App saying that I am authenticated, but it won't let me "Apply" it. Everytime I try to connect I get the following in my Console log...
9/17/09 12:52:07 AM HP MediaSmart Server Control Center[2246] *** -[NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: attempt to insert nil value (key: Server MAC)
None of my Mac's will connect to my server. I have put the HP on a DMZ on the router. I have no firewall set on any computer, and I have the WINS workgroup set to "WORKGROUP". I have re-installed Mac OS about 6 times. I have re-installed the MSS App time and time again.

Both my XP and Vista partitions can connect to the server just fine. I've dumped about 16 hours, 2 phone calls to HP, and 3 Factory Resets, into this thing and I am about done. Please someone give me some time.

Ye, known bug - it seems you have set up some virtual interface on the MSS (like VPN or something), just turn it off for the Mac configuration time.

Thanks for your reply. I have no virtual interfaces setup on my MSS. It's a stock setup, nothing added. HP is really baffled by my issues as well.

I've got the same issue - works fine on PCs in the house, I can navigate and see the server from the mac, the application shows

ok, try and follow this and post back with some reults...

-open a terminal and type arp of the server. Note the hostname and MAC of the server

-Navigate to /Library/Preferences/com.hp.mss.client.plist and open the plist

- double click on the values and edit them to the values you got formt he first step. Save and exit the editor

-Open up the MSS Preferences, and ONLY change the server password and the second tab should now be avilable

edit in step 1....type arp (ipaddress) of the server

There is no /Library/Preferences/com.hp.mss.client.plist file.

Same here, there is no  /Library/Preferences/com.hp.mss.client.plist file...

Maybe someone can send me there com.hp.mss.client.plist file and I can edit it for my server?

What version of the software are you running on your MSS?

IIRC, when I upgraded my MSS to 2.5, I had to go to the HP site and download the new connector software. With the original software, I was getting the exact same results as you.

I've also heard that there is a problem with 10.6 and the MSS. I have 10.6, but haven't upgraded yet.

EX485, 750GB WD GP, 3x2TB WD GP, 2TB WD GP eSATA
MacPro Dual Quad Xeon 2.8GHz, 6GB RAM, 320GB (Win7 x64) + 640GB (OSX 10.6), 2x1TB
Zotac IONITX-A-U Atom 330, Win7 x64, 4GB RAM, 320GB WD Scorpio, 2TB WD GP
Synology DS410, 4x2TB WD GP RAID5

Actually I just got this exact issue fixed with HP Tech Support. The issue is the newer servers have a new MAC address range and the current software is looking for that specific MAC address range. They sent me Version 2.5.1b51 and works now. Give them a call and they can send it over to you or if need be I can send it over to you. Let me know.

Fyi im new to the community I got my EX485 a week ago. :)

Thank you! I just called HP Support and they sent me the file as well. It's an updated MSS Mac client. Time Machine works now!

Did you by chance lose your SMB share Connections? I cant seem to connect to any shared drive now. I guess Ill have to give HP a call tomorrow.

October 5, 2009 11:36 PM

No - they are still working. Did you try to "connect as" and log in with your server login info?

October 5, 2009 11:40 PM

Yah, thats how I had to connect to them before I got the new Client. Just wanted to make sure it wasnt the Client that was causing my issues. Ill figure it out lol
Thanks :)
