While troubleshooting a problem with a media extender, I accidentally disabled the Local Area Connection on my server. Now I can't get in. What do I do?

I suggest using the SEARCH function over on . I believe this problem surfaced there some months back but I do not recall the solution.

You could, of course, purchase the cable to plug into the MSS motherboard and get VGA/Kbd/Mouse access to the MSS and, with that, the ability to access the bios settings. Should be able to get that with a SEARCH over there as well.

(For some reason I am unable to get to my MSS bookmarks at the moment and can't provide the links. Sorry!)

The simple fix would be to do a server recovery. That should re-enable the LAN without you losing any data. There's a guide on how to do this here: http://www.mediasmarthome.com/article/10014/How-To-Restore-the-HP-MediaSmart-...

If you simply disabled something at the WHS softwqare level Matt's suggestion will work fine. I should have mentioned that....

HOWEVER, my experience has been that this more often messes things up in a way that one cannot access the server enough to even get into it to do a Server Restore. If that is the case it is messed up in the BIOS settings area and you will need to see my earlier post...

Jumping to hacking the MSS to get a monitor attached is certainly the harder of the two suggestions. I'd try the easier solution first, then post back if it doesn't work.

Connect a USB keyboard, CTRL+ALT+DEL and type your password. Windows key + R to open the run prompt then type the following exactly:

netsh interface set interface "Local Area Connection" ENABLED
