Using The HP MediaSmart Server EX485/487 To Access Your Media Remotely (Page 1 of 5)
Categories: Networking and Remote Access
You most likely already know what a media powerhouse the new HP MediaSmart Server is. You may already be using it to stream your photos, music files, and videos throughout the home, whether in iTunes or to a devoted streaming device.
Being the digital media mogul that you are, though, you're hungry for more. You want to take your media with you, anywhere you have a connection to the Internet. In just a few simple steps, you can configure your MediaSmart Server to become accessible remotely, and listen to your favorite tunes in virtually any browser.
Step 1: Enable Remote Access
Note: This tutorial assumes that you have media available on your server and that media sharing is enabled.
First, you'll need to set up your MediaSmart Server for remote access; this is not enabled by default. On a Windows computer, navigate to the Home Server Console to get started.

Click on the "Remote Access" tab, then on the "Configure" link as shown above.

That will bring you to the screen above. First, ensure that the "Web Sites" option is turned on.

Also, as shown in the photo above, make sure that you have the TwonkyMedia sharing feature enabled. If you do not enable TwonkyMedia sharing, neither the iStream application or the browser based media streamer will function properly. Then, you can head to the next step - configuring your router.
