Introduction
The HP MediaSmart Server is a great way of managing a household's digital content-a home server that provides a simple to use, central repository for enjoying digital photos, music, videos and documents. The HP MediaSmart Server provides you with convenient access to your digital content from anywhere you can access your home network or the Internet.
The challenge is that if you can reach your home server from the Internet, then someone else might be able to-someone you'd rather not have visiting the server that holds your precious photos, music, and documents. If your HP MediaSmart Server and your home network are not properly protected, you risk having someone access these files, steal them, or delete them.
By default, the HP MediaSmart Server comes with a high degree of protection against unauthorized visitors. Security settings are high, and policies are enforced to prevent users from inadvertently introducing security risks. This paper discusses ways of helping keep your digital content safe, including some ways of increasing the security of your home network. We'll begin with that-by looking at home network security.
