Access Denied error trying to access WHS shares from XP Machine

I have a windows XP laptop that gets an error when trying to open any of my WHS shares. The error \\servername\sharename is not accessible. You might not have permissions to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions . I can access the shares without issue from my Vista machines. My user account and password are not identical on all of my machines but the Vista machines do not seem to have a problem regardless of the username. The passwords, regardless of the username, are all the same on these machines. The XP machine can only access the Music and the root of the Users shares (but not any of the actual user directories) on WHS. Before you go down the road of make the usernames the same... I have now changed them all to be idenitcal to no avail. Anybody have any ideas?

Passwords do not match!

Hi, I have successfully installed the Windows Home Server Console on my computers at home except for one that are getting the message that the passwords do not match and I don't understand why? I install the software from the CD. I create a useraccount for this computer with the same login-name as the computer's, and I give it the same password as it has when loggin in to the computer, and, yes, it is a strong password with several uppecase, lowercase and other "strange" characters. BUT it still says that the passwords do not match! The only difference I can think of is that I have set this particular computer not to have remot access, but I thought that this only means that you cannot log in to the server when you are "outside", via Internet??? When trying to syncronize the passwords it says that I have given the wrong password for the server. I have then tried to erase the account on the server, re-created the account, changed the password for this account several times, and on the computer as well... Any ideas? Regards, Dag

I'd like to replace the standard Home Server Security Certificate with one that I buy from a Certificate Authority so that people who access photos don't see the severe warning message that always appears when they connect to my server. I'd be grateful for suggestions on how to do this.

Hello, How do I change my settings so when I RDC into the server and open up internet explore, I can download files. I get the following error. "Your current security settings do not allow for this file to be downloaded". Thanks Update - OK to get around this in the meantime. I downloaded the files I needed (installing sharepoint) and then moved them over to a folder I create in the C: root. When I try to run the exe I get this error message. "Windows can not access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item". What do I need to do to correct this? Thanks

Change in user accounts

OK, I do not get this. I have had my server for 1 week now. When I first set it up and add user accounts based on the log in names we had on the PC's. For example Dad, Mom, Son, and everything worked fine. I was able to get to the webshare and the server from outside. Since then, we have changed the account names on the PC's to now be our first names (why I don't now. lol). They have been changed on all the PC's. I went to the webshare options and updated the manager listed based on the new account names that we also added to the server and removed the old ones. Now I can not get logged into the webshare. I get invalid id or password. The only way I can get logged in is if i use one of the visitor accounts. Any ideas? I saw something here about the sql database that webshare uses, not being updated. But I can not find anything to tell me how to manually hack that db, although, I shoud not have to. Thanks

It Shouldn't Be This Hard!

OK - I'm obviously missing something simple! I manage a MS Windows server farm with 400+ WinTel servers and oversee a staff of 5 server engineers. I have 30+ years of experience in the IT industry. And yet I can't seem to get access working for anyone other than myself to my Webshare website. It works fine for me, but not for any of the various other WHS accounts I have created. Whenever I test logging in with those accounts to my WHS system (an HP Ex475), I get a response of "An invalid username or password was provided. Please try again." Any guidance wout be greatly appreciated! Thanks - Russ
