HP MediaSmart Servers in Australia?

Hi. Can anyone from HP tell us when we might be able to purchase MediaSmart servers in Australia? I can always purchase one in the U.S. and have it shipped but this kind of takes care of any warranty issues that might arise. Thanks and looking forward to a response of some type :) gib

I recently purchased an EX-470 and whenever I turn it on there appears to be hard drive activity that occurs for more then 10 minutes. Is this normal? According to HP customer service it isn't. If it is normal will adding more RAM remedy or lessen this situation? I have updated the software(Power Pack 1) and server(1.3) to the latest updates. I am presently using the server with an XP Home computer and a VISTA Home Premium 64-bit computer. The capacity of the server is at about 30 percent used. Thank you, Miles

I have a EX-470 that I'm added 3 x 1TB drives internally, a external RAID tower with 2 x 1 TB and 2 x 1.5TB drives, and added an external 1TB and 1.5TB usb drives. My total disk space is about 11 TB of which I'm using about 5TB so far. Based on storage monitoring program I have, none of my data seems to be stored on the original WHS 500GB harddrive that came with the unit. After reading all the articles about upgrading I already upgraded the memory to 2GB Corsair dual memory with 4-4-4-12 latency. This configuration has been working great for a couple months now. Now the probleme, I just recently upgraded my cpu to AMD Atholon LE-1660 2.8GHz 45W processor. I had read the articles about upgrading to LE-1640 and saw a few posts that indicated that LE-1660 would work so after not finding a LE-1640, I bought a LE-1660 from newegg and the upgrade seemed to go well except for the following. The processor temperature seems to run normal. When I get WHS Console to run it shows the CPU temp at 38C with the system temp about the same. I've even put a big...

I was able too change both pictures. I had to change a photo on the server called I_default_main also. The problem though is that the Home Server Picture does not fit right. It is in the middle of the page and you can't see the writing for the two links. Also the links are messed up. They look like when your computer refuses too open a picture on a webpage. Does anyone know how too fix it? I would like too chane the color and font of the link text and make the link photo's re-appear.

I have a problem with my HP 470. I installed the MSS Fan control addin about 2 months ago and it worked perfectly. I tried to adjust the fan speed yesterday and when I hit apply the application froze and I closed then re-opened the server console and checked the fan speed and it is running about 630 to650 rpm. No matter what changes I make in the fan control it stays in low speed. I tried uninstalling the fan control addin and it didn't help. I reinstalled the addin and set the fan speed to the original default and the fan is still running about 650. I have to keep an external fan blowing at the server to keep it from overheating. Can anyone help me correct this problem? Tony

I'd like some advice before launching this time intensive project. What format/codec to use? Should I save the tapes as .AVI? Any software to recommend? Eventually, I'd like to burn them to DVDs.
As you may or may not know, there is a program out there called "Accesstunes" that allows a person to stream their itunes music library (yes, protected files too as long as the remote machine is authorized) over the internet via a webpage and also via a Remote User's itunes program itself. My question (for those more knowledgeable about the inner workings of WHS than me) is whether and how this program can be configured to run with Windows Home Server. If it can, we can have true remote itunes streaming over the web and Itunes itself. I have never used the program, however, the readme file on their website ( www.zeleksoftware.com ) indicates that the program resides on the "computer" where the library is. (I could not tell whether Itunes actually has to be running itself on the same "computer" where the library is.) You can log in from a webbrowser anywhere, and to use the Itunes program for receiving the remote stream, there is an add-in that must be installed on the remote machine using Itunes. Other than that, it seems like it is a somewhat straightforward means of port forwarding/firewall issues. If you have or can make...

I've got a question about the best way to media share with my EX-470. The way I have my setup right now, I have 4 computers in my home not counting the EX-470. I have no media extenders. Of the 4 computers, one is a work computer in my home office runing Vista Ultimate 64, the other three are MS MCE 2005 computers - two of which are HTPCs each hooked up to its home theater systems (one in the bedroom and the other in the living room). I do not use a wireless connection because my house came pre-wired with CAT 6 next to all the phone jacks so all my machines are wired connect visa gigabit Ethernet cables and hubs. The EX-470 has about 500 ripped DVDs on it in standard TSO format and it also has about 600 ripped CDs in WAV format. The DVDs are stored in the //Movies directory and the CDs are stored in the //Music directory of the EX-470. Up to now, I have had each MCE on each computer point the shared folders //Movies and //Music to play the DVD or CD on the respective machine. So far it's worked pertty well...

Nevertheless, if it is posted somewhere and I've missed it, I would very much appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction! :) However, just in case it isn't within these forum threads, here's my question. I've had very, very few issues with my EX475. I hadn't really done a Webshare photo album, except as a sort of test months ago, and it seemed to work fine. A couple of days ago, I put an album together to share with family. I sent a test notification to my personal email, a second gmail account and my work email, just to make certain everything was working okay. The email was delivered with no problems--pretty much the standard invite. However, the link doesn't work. Additionally, at the bottom of the email, there's a note which says something along the lines of "If the link above doesn't work, copy and paste this URL:" However, there is actually no URL following that line--it's just blank. Here are some techincal details, which I hope...

Do I just follow directions or has anyone found better ways to proceed. My main focus, initially at least, will be backups and photo storage and viewing. Looking forward to using the device.
Hi all, I am looking into building a home media system/network and I'm attracted to the HP MediaSmart product family. I would like to pose my design thoughts and see if the MediaSmart system is the way to go: Our TV feed is from DirecTV. We have several substantial iTunes libraries. We have many DVDs. And quite a few photos and downloaded video files. We'd like to be able to access this material from multiple locations in the house, and perhaps remotely. Ultimately it may be stored centrally, but I doubt it. It will probably always be located on multiple systems. We would like to establish a central media server/manager that contains at least our DVDs "burned" to the hard drive(s) and maybe other media such as photos, our primary iTunes library etc. We'd like to be able to control and manage the recordings, settings, etc of DirecTV as well as control live TV including pausing, etc, even for multiple tuners (so that different people can have their own recording preferences, show list, etc.). We'd like to have access to other iTunes and image libraries on other computers located on the network. We'd like the interface to be consistent, whether...

Per my blog post today, I noted that Real Networks has just announced RealDVD, a program that lets you legally save the contents of protected DVDs to a PC hard drive. Once you've saved the DVD to disk, you apparently can't copy that file to another drive. But, if you save it orginally to the Server, you will be able to stream it to your other devices, such as your TVs or other PCs. The software is in pre-release. Larry Magid has an article on the topic in SiliconValley.com. Larry says: I've been testing a pre-release copy of the product and it pretty much works as advertised. I copied several movies from my DVD collection to my PC's hard drive and, after putting the original DVDs back on my shelf, was able to play the movies on my PC. Has anyone tried to copy DVD movies to their MediaSmart Server using this new software? Did it work well for you? How did you do it?
