Media Collector/ MSS with iPhoto

I apologize if this has already been asked but I searched and didn't see anything. I am a longtime PC user that recently bought a mac. I have been managing my photos with iPhoto. I am discovering that iPhoto is not exactly ideal for my situation, but would like to keep it as my default photo program so my wife can use it to upload and share pictures. Here's what I'd like to do: Ideally, what I'd like to do is store all the photos in a central place (MSS) so that I could then access them from any computer, rather than just having them tied to one machine. As an alternative to this, having media collector aggregate the files would be ok. Also, would like to be able to access my photos remotely via Istream, simplify media on my iphone, or the media streaming functionality in remote access. Here are the problems I've been having. If I save my Iphoto Library onto the MSS and then access it from my laptop (via wifi), the connection seems quite slow. When clicking through the library, it takes a few seconds to pull up an album or event. When I save the...

iTunes Server & Twonky - I JUST DON'T GET IT - PLEASE HELP?

Most of the reason I bought my HP EX495 was to backup our home systems, but I also REALLY liked the idea of having a centralized iTunes library (library & music share). Because we also have and heavily use an AppleTV I wanted my daughter, wife and myself to be able to create our own playlists in the SAME iTunes library so it can be sync'd up with the AppleTV (sync'd so it can play those playlists when the computers are off rather than streaming which requires the computers to be on), but I want them to be able to create and manage that central library FROM THEIR OWN COMPUTERS AND THEIR OWN INSTALL OF ITUNES (right now we've been using a single desktop as the point of access for iTunes for everyone, pain in the rear end). I *thought* the HP Home Server would resolve this? Here's what I don't get. So far as I can tell, all the "iTunes Server" on the server does is shows all media files, in our case all 75,000 of them with no playlists, no organization, nothing...just here's a list of a crap load of stuff everyone can see on the network in...

Firstly, I apologise if this is not in the correct forum area. It covers a few different areas, so thought general discussion was the best fit. I've just purchased an EX490 server and have a query about how it can help how I use my media. My current way of 'working' is: ...... My iTunes library is on 'c:/music/'. I download video file (usually .avi XViD). I convert to a iPhone compatible file via handbrake (using the iPhone preset), and output the file to 'c:/music/automatically add to iTunes/'. iTunes automatically adds video file as a movie. I go into iTunes and change the info on the new video to make it a TV Show and set the season and episode number. This moves it into the TV Shows section and groups it with any existing videos for that show/season. I then sync in the iPhone, and it copies over the earliest 3 unwatched for each show (based on my sync settings). I'm then able to watch the show on my iPhone and once watched it marks the video as watched the next time I sync, replacing it with an unwatched episode (if one exists). .......... What I'd like to be...

Hi, Apology for the long post. I was setting up my new EX495, I've an Win-XP machine and two Macs. Last night when I try to setup the Media Collector via Home Media Console from Mac, the 'application' would crash everytime I when I change the search media location to custom. This is the message I get on MediaSmart Server Tab - An error ocurred in the application you were using. You can try the following: - Restart the application. - Click the "More Information" link below for details about this error. Unfortunately neither the Restart button nor More Information works, so I can't resolve this problem. I wish I could attach a screen shoot for the error screen. Here are my questions: 1. Anyone else has encountered this problem? Is this a Mac only problem? 2. How do you "Restart" an application? So far the only way I figure out to restart the application and get rid of the error is to restart MSS. Thanks in advance for your insights.

As a newbie to the HP MediaSmart server products I am seeking some advice regarding home video setup and how other people are getting the most out of the HP MediaSmart server's. I have toyed around with Windows XP Media Center on a custom PC and had limited success in my home cinema environment. I currently use a Playtime Media Player for all my DivX requirements but is limited in storage capacity and ability. What I liked about the HP Media Smart server is the iTunes ability, user interface and storage growth potential also centralizing media on a home entertainment network which consists of laptops and PC's etc. The problem I am having is the "limited" ability for the MediaSmart Server (EX487)to connect to a TV having no video out without the purchasing of a uPnP media streaming device like Smartmedia Connect. Am I missing something here or is it necessary to purchase another bit of kit to enable this facility or is this the right product for me? I don't have a PS3 or xBox. I also see the SmartMedia Connect device is now discontinued (would prefer to purchase same brand to compatibility)...why? Does anyone know the reasons and...

It may be a few generations old, but the EX-470 is still quite a capable machine. At $229, it's quite a bargain. The EX470 supports 4 bay eSATA port multipliers and additional expansion via USB. Newegg is selling recertified EX-470s for $254 on sale, but this promo code will knock off a few more to make it $229: EMCMLNP36 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16859105564

I reset my login info in the preference pane and it didn't go away. I also rebooted my Mac and it didn't go away. I then restarted the MediaSmart Server, and the process stopped. I was able to seamlessly get back into the server once it rebooted with no issues. Does anyone know exactly what this process is doing, what invokes it, and what might cause it to run perpetually?
