I'm getting the following message from time to time when I select the System Status in Windows Home Server Console on my new HP MediaSmart Server EX495: no connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:9247 Windows Home Server The System status contains no data and that message repeats over and over. Rebooting the WHS clears it up for awhile. It has re-appearred about 5 times now. Is there a permanent fix for this?

Everytime I log into my mediasmart via Remote desktop connection, I notice the time keeps on changing. I set it back to the correct time and it takes, but when I check my server again for maintenance, it changes again. I have even rebooted it to see if that changes it and it stays the correct time. So it must happen when the server is running. Any ideas? Thank you!

It may be a few generations old, but the EX-470 is still quite a capable machine. At $229, it's quite a bargain. The EX470 supports 4 bay eSATA port multipliers and additional expansion via USB. Newegg is selling recertified EX-470s for $254 on sale, but this promo code will knock off a few more to make it $229: EMCMLNP36 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16859105564

I noticed today that this process, hpMSSAgent, was running constantly in the background and devouring about 50-60% of my CPU. I reset my login info in the preference pane and it didn't go away. I also rebooted my Mac and it didn't go away. I then restarted the MediaSmart Server, and the process stopped. I was able to seamlessly get back into the server once it rebooted with no issues. Does anyone know exactly what this process is doing, what invokes it, and what might cause it to run perpetually?

I have just taken one :-) but they are going fast. I found it two hours ago and already 3 has "gone" from the list. So right now 6 left. Im getting mine transported to Dubai :-) and love that the EX495 have a universal power supply (100-240v) :-) HP Middle East ususally overcharges by a HUGE margin (+100%) I AM NOT affiliated with the seller in ANY way! - I have a home built Home server with 3x1.5TB drives, Q6600 CPU and 2GB RAM. Favorite AddIn - MyMovies :-) But I run multiple platforms - 5 pcs and 1 macbook pro - and would like to get the "TimeMachine" restore to work better. and maybe HP solution can replace the ever buggy ORB..... Looking forward to join the MediaSmart Crowd! :-)

Hi, I have my machine "working" but I'm a bit confused. I haven't found much good information so I thought I would start with a couple of basic questions here. I got Media Connect to start working. It downloaded for an hour or so and then just stopped. I can't seem to get it working again no matter what. Am I missing something obvious? Can someone explain the Twonky vs. Media Center servers? I seem to need both running. I simply cannot figure out what folders are served by what. I have both in-home and internet streaming up. But, this morning nothing will play from the streaming music folders. I can see them, but they do not play. It worked last night. Since Media connect stopped working I then copied my music folders all over manually. But, now I have some duplicated tracks and even albums. Do I need to clear everything out and copy them fresh again? I added a user as suggested and I think most of my files belong to that user, but it is really confusing when you look at the shares. How can you tell what is what in the folders? There seems to be...

Hello all, I am new to both the forum and WHS, so please bear with me if I ask some silly questions. FIrst, some general info of myself. I have been a PC Power-user for quite some years already; and throughout the years, like many of you, have built up a massive amount of data/media files that fills across 7 external drives (of different sizes). My nework consist of: PC Core i7 (for gaming and conversion), two Macbook Pro, PS3, and iPhone. So naturally, I am looking to centralize all these datas into one single place which I can access from anywhere with an internet connection. So I guess my question is what is best for my needs? I have heard so many great things about the HP EX series- which EX490 seems like the best bet sans the relatively high price tag. What is different between EX490 and a general NAS like Synology DS209 (aside than more drive bay)? Is WHS like a OS by itself that I can add 'software' and stuffs onto it? What about a BitTorrent client on WHS - is there one? I also need remote access anywhere with a internet connection (preferably free, of...

I just got a new EX490 and am getting started learning how to use it. On the MediaSmart Setup Poster that came in the box there is a notation in the section on "Set up your HP MediaSmart Server" that indicates "Gaming Consoles & Tivo" as connected devices. The user guide doesn't mention anything about Tivo. I was wondering if the WHS system includes anything specifically for Tivo support? I know that there is a plug-in called Tivo Publisher, but is there any support besides that? Thanks.

I have thought about this a few times. Even pondered over building a DIY server or the MSS. I finally decided for the MSS primarily becase of simplicity and the integration HP already had built for it. But if you find you are outgrowing the MSS what would be the important pices you would include in your home made WHS server I already figured out that I was going to start with a low power quad core phenom like the 9100e, and then a tower case with 9 external 5.25 bays so i can convert them all to 3.5 hotswap bays. I found a way to do that and essentially get 15 drive slots. And then a few extra Disk controllers to enable each of them. The number of disks is the only reason i see to do it, and i am thinking 15 would be more then enough. What are your thoughts on DIY a home server.
