I says finding your home server, Please wait while your home....., then crashes and I get a Home Server Mini Setup has stopped working. Then another popup Installation did not finish..... I have gone thru some other articles to check firewalls and all that and it seems fine. I can't get this to work. I have it running on my xp box, another vista box also but this 64 bit vista still not working. Thanks for any help.

Is there anyway for Webshare to access the shared photos folder directly. I have thousands of photos that i'd like to be able to share through webshare but it looks like the only options is to import them. That would mean i have 30gb of photos sitting twice on the same box I suppose it may be possible to point the \webshare folder to photos but i want control over what photos appear and what don't. Seems strange to potentially have duplicates of all yout photos (in addition to folder duplication for redundancy) Perhaps i am missing something :-)

I have a windows XP laptop that gets an error when trying to open any of my WHS shares. The error \\servername\sharename is not accessible. You might not have permissions to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions . I can access the shares without issue from my Vista machines. My user account and password are not identical on all of my machines but the Vista machines do not seem to have a problem regardless of the username. The passwords, regardless of the username, are all the same on these machines. The XP machine can only access the Music and the root of the Users shares (but not any of the actual user directories) on WHS. Before you go down the road of make the usernames the same... I have now changed them all to be idenitcal to no avail. Anybody have any ideas?

After a restore I decided to install McAfee before putting any data on the server. Low and behold, after a restart the server crashed again with a flashing blue OS light and wouldn't boot up. NOTES: I had also installed a memory upgrade so it could have been this but the MSS didn't crash as soon as I'd recovered it? It would sure save a lot of set up time. Transfering docs and files is easy enough but it's the programs I want to transfer. Anyone got any ideas?

Hello there Server-lovers! I’m calling out for your Professional help regarding some issues that i don’t understand. For some years i’m administrating a HP Proliant Server, at my office just because nobody else want to do it. I’m just an amateur, but Windows Server 2003 is pretty easy to understand. For some weeks ago i bought myself a HP MediaSmart Server EX475 with 500+500 Gb. The first thing i did was to add 2 disks with 1Tb each. I then added them to the Storage Pool, and can see that the Total Size is 2,73 Tb. So far so god. I use a HP Workstation xw4400 with Windows Vista Ultimate, and I put up network shortcuts to the shared folders. And now starts the questions: 1. Windows explorer shows 445 Gb total space and 445 Gb of free space on each shortcut. Why ??? How is the balancing of the disks working ? I installed 2 add-ins (”Disk Management” and ”Advanced Admin Console”) to figure out where my files are in what partition and so on… (just have to know) (And just for the record: I turned off duplication of folders because i still have my Maxtor 1 Tb Lan-disk...

I have done a little digging and am coming up blank on this one... I travel quite a bit and need to backup my data while away in case anything disasterous were to happen to my laptop. Does WHS/MediaSmart allow for offsite online automated backups? I am using XP and Vista (two travelling laptops.) I see the remote access from any internet connection which leads me to believe that remote bacup could be possible. ANY help here (official HP stance or work around) would be great. Thanks

Hi, I used the HP Recovery DVD after my MediaSmart Server gave me a solid red health light indication that the OS was bad! This process took about 60 minutes after which the Home Server Console Re-Installed onto my laptop and I was able to get back on my home server to find that ALL THE DATA HAD BEEN WIPED AND NOTHING HAD BEEN RESTORED! Has anyone else had this experience? Why was all my data on the data drive wiped? How can I get it back? My HP Laptop did the same thing last week and now that all the data has gone from the server I have nothing! No Photos, no laptop back-up file, no paperwork, NOTHING. William

Originally, my main computer had two hard drive volumes, C: and D: My MediaSmart performed the automatic backups for about a week just fine, but now I removed one of the volumes, D:, completely from my main system and used it for a server storage expansion. Now when my MediaSmart attempts to automatically perform a backup of the main system, it backs up Volume C: just fine, then encounters an error when attempting to backup Volume D:, obviously since it is no longer within my system. I've looked through and attempted to remove Volume D: from the backup list with no luck. Is there a way to set the backup settings so that it no longer looks for Volume D:? Or will I have to remove the entire PC backup from my homeserver, and start fresh?

I am running two HP WHS servers in my home office. One is on a wireless N network for all the laptops and one is on the ethernet for the desk tops. I can access both servers from several of my computers and have been manually backing up critical data from one WHS to the other, but it would be great if I could set up certain folders on the WHS servers to automatically back themselves up on the other server. Or better keep the folders syncronized. But since they are not on the same leg of the same network they dont see each other. In fact, both the ethernet hub and the wireless hub are connected to the same router and I can in fact see all my computers from any other computer on either network, the fact that the two WHS servers will not see anything not on their particular leg is causing the problem. Is there a way I can get them to talk with each other without having to move data manually?

I installed the 9/23 updates for WHS a little while ago... (Everything has been functioning just fine for several months up to this point. Upgrades to PP1, etc. all fine. Did NOT install either of the HP-provided Add-Ins though.) Following the update I found that the MSS had not been "discovered" and the server icon was grey. The connector failed and executing "Discovery.exe" did not find it. I checked that all cables were connected and that the appropriate switch/router indicators were lit to indicate proper connections. I powered the MSS off (quick push of the power button on the rear followed by a wait for a shut down) and on again and observed the following in this order: 1. The MSS did not connect to either my Vista or my WinXP clients 2. The MSS was not visible on the network 3. The Connector Troubleshooter could not find the server 4. I could not connect to the server via RDP using the server name ("ServName") 5. I could not connect to the server via RDP using the IP address (192.168.xxx.yyy) 6. I could ping the IP address (192.168.x.y) successfully 7. I could ping the server by name ("ServName") successfully 8....
