Hi Guys, I'm very impressed with the reviews I've read regarding the HP MediaSmart Connect x280n and would like to know if anyone knows when the scheduled release in the UK is. If there is none, is there a way i can import one from the US? I went through the process of ordering from Amazon earlier tonight only to be rejected when I entered my address.

Has anyone see this error when starting Media Center? I started seeing this immediately after installing Cinemanow and HP MediaSmart Gateway service. It went away as soon as I un-installed Cinemanow and came back when I re-installed Cinemanow. Sure seems related to Cinemanow and probably has something to do with digital media protection.

I have recently been able to give Vista Ultimate Media Center a test drive. I am using a P4 2.8 GHz laptop with 1.5GB DRAM. I have cable internet and my network is wired 'g'. Most of my media is on a home built Linspire (linux OS) server with a few other drives scattered around my network. In total around 3.5TB of mostly video. What I am observing is that Media Center seems to be in a constant never ending discovery/updating mode. I have 12 'watch' folders enabled and I assume that if I want to be able to access the content in these folders using Media Center and MSC they need to be designated as 'Watch Folders'. Now I realize that first time discovery will take some time but it seems to nearly start over each time I power down and restart. Also, when I power on the MSC it is usually well behind where MC is on my PC and therefore is quite slow and sluggish. The most troubling aspect is that my higher bitrate mpeg2 files that play smoothly and continuously on my other network media players stop and start as though the streaming is not keeping...

Videos -> Genre Problem 1: - it contains - ALL - - and it contains All Videos - and it contains Folder - And it contains Jumper >> So a) Why is there All and All Videos b) Neither folder has anything in it c) 'Folder' also has nothing in it d) and it also thinks 'Jumper' is a folder and it has nothing in it Problem 2 The Movie is on my pc, shared by wmp11 It is an mpeg (converted from vobs) And in wmp11 I set the genre to Action >> So where is the action genre on Hp MediaSmart Connect

How to stop servers reappearing

I've noticed that servers have an uncanny ability to reappear after being removed from my MediaSmart Connect device. Case 1 - Steps 1. Remove a server (e.g. I removed my pc). 2. Press on/off on the remote causing the Connect device to 'sleep' 3. Press on/off again to wake it up The server is back. Case 2 - Steps 1. Remove a server -- the pc 2. Power off the pc 3. Power the pc back on 4. The server re-appears in the Media Connect server list I assume that what happensis in case 1 it's doing a refresh as it wakes up. And in case 2 its getting an event that there is a server appearing. What is frustrating is that I have explicitly excluded those servers and expect them to stay that way until I hit refresh. In fact it actually tells me the servers will stay gone until i hit refresh. Is anyone else seeing this? Is there any way to keep the servers gone. Thanks.

Problem: The media connect device does not show me any of the VOB files. I can see photos, music, and mpegs (taken from my digital cam). But no real media dvd movies. Any idea what to do? The official DIvX.com site does not have any and they provide next to no information on where to purchase/rent DivX VOD videos. Googling mostly turns up Peer to peer pirated stuff. I did look at GreenCine but they seem to only have 4 or 5 films that appear to be DivX VOD. So what am I missing?

We have just released PlayOn Beta. Netflix support is just down the road, and the fully featured release will be coming shortly! " The MediaSmart Connect has pretty much the same functionality as the TV, so it probably works as well (although I have not tested anything yet) They provide a one month free subscription, but after that it is $30/month - not exactly cheap. If anyone gives it a try, lets us know how it works..

Many of us are amassing large libraries of digital video just like we did with audio and pictures. What I really like about the HP Media Connect is it's playlist functionality. Great job HP! However the menu select soft keys will not allow a shuffle function on video playlists though it does allow shuffle function for audio playlists. I have created 30 different video playlists from my library of 2,500 music videos. Many playlists are 50-100 songs deep. Each time I select a video playlist it plays back in the same exact order. A real bummer. HP, CAN YOU PLEASE GIVE US THIS OPTION ON A UPCOMING RELEASE PLEASE? Use the yellow soft key as it is unused at this point. Or switch green view thumbnails to a differnet color as to be consistent with the green shuffle key used in audio playlists. I now have 4 x280n around my house connected to a HP Mediasmart Service and I am truly impressed with it's capabilities! I saw HP's demo at CES in January and knew you folks have a winner here. BTW Windows Media Player does a shuffle function regardless of media type. Is there another way for me to...

My MediaSmart Connect Remote Control controlled my Connect and my (Cox) Motorola SetTop Box directly out of the box. So ... a truly Universal Remote Control would also control my Sony AV Receiver and my Denon DVD ... Right ??? After a search on the web (no codes are included with the doc (natch!!)), I am faced with 28 (yes 28!!) choices for controlling my Sony STR-DG820 Receiver and 6 (yes 6!!) code choices for controlling my Denon DVD-2910/955. The mind boggles ... Sometime next year I might surface. Now here's a REAL Opportunity for HP to dig themselves out of the mud and really SHINE. Logitech has a database for their Harmony line of RCs where you can input the model number of the component and your RC will be programmed (via a USB connect) to control the device. While no USB connect exists for this RC, a similar database would allow input of the component model number to produce the corresponding code for the RC. Duh!!!! Why Why WTF hasn't this happened ??????? PS: Anyone got the codes for my components???

Has anyone been successful in getting a signal from their MediaSmart Connect into a standard PC monitor (or any consumer electronics device) using a DVI input? I have never had a problem connecting devices with HDMI outputs, using a standard adapter or adapter cable, into any DVI input, with the exception of Blu-Ray players that require HDCP (although some DVI monitors include HDCP compliance). Not only do many consumer HDTVs and projectors rely on DVI inputs, but it's also very typical for Media Center users to try and interface the MediaSmart Connect or any other Media Center Extender with a PC monitor. Currently, the MediaSmart connect fails to output to any device with a DVI input. This should have been fixed before release, and certainly can be fixed today with a firmware update addressing the bug.
