On my 5 computer network 2 of the computers the warning says "There is a connector upgrade available". I go through the HP update, then inside the home server console click on the upgrade on the respective computers. It brings up IE and I click on the Download Now button to upgrade. The screen pops up and I hit Run on both screens. It says downloading software from home server ..., 0% complete and then the window disappears and nothing happens. It worked on the other 3 but does not work on these 2. The console still shows that an upgrade is available for these 2 computers. I don't think that it is a connection to the home server because I can log in to it through the console on those 2 computers. Any ideas? Fixed the problem. Uninstalled the connector software. Manually installed the software from from the server software folder. That worked as opposed to doing the automatic install.

2008 Sept 23 WHS Update -- Problems

I installed the 9/23 updates for WHS a little while ago... (Everything has been functioning just fine for several months up to this point. Upgrades to PP1, etc. all fine. Did NOT install either of the HP-provided Add-Ins though.) Following the update I found that the MSS had not been "discovered" and the server icon was grey. The connector failed and executing "Discovery.exe" did not find it. I checked that all cables were connected and that the appropriate switch/router indicators were lit to indicate proper connections. I powered the MSS off (quick push of the power button on the rear followed by a wait for a shut down) and on again and observed the following in this order: 1. The MSS did not connect to either my Vista or my WinXP clients 2. The MSS was not visible on the network 3. The Connector Troubleshooter could not find the server 4. I could not connect to the server via RDP using the server name ("ServName") 5. I could not connect to the server via RDP using the IP address (192.168.xxx.yyy) 6. I could ping the IP address (192.168.x.y) successfully 7. I could ping the server by name ("ServName") successfully 8....

Greetings. I am a new member to this site and really am impressed. I use my HP 470 as a file server and it has worked flawlessly for the 10 months I have owned it. I am running with just the one 500GB drive to avoid the DE corruption issue. I use the remote connect and backup but have not even looked at the other features yet. I am anxious to add 2 500GB drives but will not do that until the PP1 is installed. Since PP1 was released, I have read quite a few posts that say users have had major problems after installing PP1. Have they addressed these issues? Is it safe to install PP1 yet? I have installed the HP update but have not downloaded PP1 yet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. DickDay

Hi! I got my HP Media Smart early in June. Everything has been great until the software update from HP the 21th of July. Suddenly I got a Health warning - Your server is running warm. System temperature: ~61 degrees celcius. CPU temperature: ~31 degrees celcius. What is the normal temperatures? I have only one 500G disc (the one that came with the server). I can't see any dust either. I have read about a sensor software problem. Anyone know if this has been fixed? Then I guess my server is too warm, or that the sensor has a hardware problem. Anyone else with the same problem?

I then installed PP1, the speed returned to normal but got a message to upgrade my client. When I try to update my client from the console hyperlink or from the share on the server it fails with message "Home Server Mini Setup has stopped working" ..... I uninstalled both the add-ins and uninstalled the previous connector software but still get the same error. Steve

There use to be a HP Update program on the client computer that checked for HP updates, for the software running on the client computer (not the server). I switched to a 64 bit Vista version and there is not an HP Update install on my Vista 64 bit machine. Is that normal? And yes I installed both Power Pack 1 and the HP update on the server. And I installed the software from HPServer:55000, to get the 64 bit software on my Vista machine. Thanks

So I got the new updates and can now use the hp server software on my vista 64-bit machine. I do have an issue where it tells me my account is not found on the server and that I should create an account on the server and all that fun stuff. Well it actually is the same account that I use on the other machines. The software seems to base the username on the actual directory name instead of the account name. I'll try to explain. So let's say my name is John Doe and that's the account name I use on my machines. I get a shiny new computer with vista 64-bit and the company sets it up with the account name of doe and therefore a user directory of c:\users\doe. Trying to be clever and think ahead I change the account name to John Doe to match the other computers in my house. However, windows does not change the user directory, it remains at c:\users\doe. So even though I'm logging in as John Doe, I get a warning from the hp server software after logging in that the user account "doe" is not found on the mediasmart server....
