Using a domain name outside of TZO.com

I have a custom domain name parked at GoDaddy.com. I want to use this domain name that I already have paid for as a means to remotely access my Mediasmart Server. My current free one year domain name is expiring at TZO.com. I don't want to renew that domain name but it appears that the Mediasmart server only works with TZO supplied domains. How do I get my HP Mediasmart Server to stop pointing to TZO.com and point to my new domain name that is not part of the TZO system?

Blinking Blue Server Health

I am hoping someone can help me figure out what I can do in this scenario. I have a HP EX470 with 2 HDs and 2 USB Drives. Now usually there is no problem, but what happens once in a while is that my network will drop and all of a sudden the blue blinking server light comes up. If my network comes back online, the light doesn't stop blinking. I also then have to do a hard reboot and it just keeps blinking. To fix this problem I sometimes have to leave the server off for 24 hours and then it comes back online and then basically this entire thing happens again and again (every couple of weeks). Does anyone have any ideas. I have already called into HP and what they did was they gave me another chassis and that still didn't solve the problem. I can't seem to figure it out and am hoping the community can give me some ideas. I was thinking about doing a server restore, but am worried that the blue blinking light will happen during the restore and then I will be stuck. Is there anything I can do, such as connect...

Well I've had my Media Smart server for over a month now and overall I'm happy with my system. The only complaint I get it is from friends and family when they log into the web share they say that it is slow. I've logged in a couple times and noticed it as well. Now I don't expect it to be like "photo bucket" but is there things that I could do to speed it up?

I just got my new server set up and all is going well except I get a certificate warning when trying to connect to the webshare. I registered the free domain/DNS with TZO that HP offers. I have had a pay one with DynDNS and was wondering how to configure the machine with that DNS. I really don't care about clicking through the warning screen personally but family members are a bit freaked out and think it's going to cause the end of the world or something....so they won't go see the freakin photos I posted...no matter how much I try to convince them that it is okay. Argggh :-) Any help getting rid of the nag screen would be greatly appreciated. And my family won't be freaked out about seeing photos of their grand kids...well maybe. Also any way to modify the websites that are built in? Maybe personalize them a bit? I have just started delving into the inner workings of the WHS op system so am not all that familiar with it yet.

As the title says... The MSS has been assigned to my workgroup and I can manually using the UNC get it to map a network drive to a folder on the MSS. I can not see the MSS as a "computer" in the network. It does show up as the PVConnect media server, and the Windows Media Connect server. I'm not getting drive letter access to the drive like I can get with my XP Pro box. Is this a limitation of the Vista 64 implementation? I really hate to have to map a drive to each folder... Suggestions?

I have a dedicated static IP address and no restriction from my ISP on having a server. My TZO.COM registration will need to be renewed later this month and I would rather host my own domain name.

hi, i don't know where to put this one. I installed the McAfee add-in that came with the smartserver. It came up hith a severe "health warning" almost immediately, as i could figure out the automatic scanning was disabled - but the services were running ok. went to the asap page to see if i could fina any info, and it told me that i did not have the firewall protection installed. Fine - install it then - but here's where something went wrong as i now can not access the server no matter how i try. RDC does not find the server, i can't ping it, cant access it with winVNC (whch were running ok before this), can't acess it with the WHS console and it's not visible in the network allthough when i look in my DHCP/router it has got an IP address, and by the way after severaL reboots and overnight running, the red health light is still on. what now...?

Certificate issue

Hi! I don't know if anyone could give me some insight into this weird behavior. I got my MediaSmart a few weeks ago, and it has been purring along flawlessly. Now though, something weird started out of nowhere: if I try to access the web interface via http://myservername/ , I get a certificate error. Looking at the certificate's details, it is a Go Daddy issued certificate which is only valid for myservername.homeserver.com. Back then, I had looked at it quite carefully: the certificate was some (seemingly) self issued certificate with a very long, randomly generated named (or so it looked like), and it was valid for myservername.homeserver.com, myservername, and some other that I forget. Basically, I could access the server from anywhere using whatever name and it worked (well, any of those 3 anyway), as long as the certificate was installed (and my understanding was that it got installed with the home server client). Now though, with that new certificate, its only valid for my homeserver.com address, which is awkward. Even more awkward is that this happened out of nowhere. Does anyone have any idea of what the hell happened? Thank you very much!

In fact I had somehow configured it as a jump on my client desktop. I would just double click it and log into my WHS. I had to rebuild my computer and now I can't figure out how I did this. I dont want to configure and run RDC. The client and WHS are on the same home network and I just want to log on to the desktop of the WHS. It took me hours to stubble on how to do this on some forum and now I can't find it at all. Thanks

Hi All, I have been trying to set up my MediaServer for the last week (with and without sucess). I initially got it working with an old Linksys router (WAG54GS) i had lying around, but it was unreliable to the point of being useless! Sometimes it would work fine; then within a few hours (not changing anything) it would stop working. I read a few issues about these routers here and decided to get a new one, as there is no point having a remote server if every few days/hours you have to physically reset the equipment. Last night i bought a D-Link DSL-2740B (DKT-810) ADSL router. I have spent all of this morning trying to get it to work without sucess. At least with the old router I could occasionally get all the router tests 'ticked' and i would have remote access (if only for a few hours). But the new router fails every time on the same issues. I know the router supports UPnP and the 'Enable UpnP' box is ticked in the router configuration, but it still fails this test. I have also tried port forwarding to 80, 443 & 4125 but this makes no difference on...

I have an HP 470 and a Linksys wrt150n wireless router. In the past, I would occassionally get a port-forwarding message about once a month. All I ever need to do is have WHS unconfigure it and then run setup and it seems to fix it. Since PP1, I'm running into this about every other day. Just today, it has failed twice in the past hour. I have absolutely no idea what port forwarding is. I just know that WHS doesn't like it when it fails. Is this an indication that my router is going bad? Thanks! DickDay
