Restore Individual MSS file from MSS Backup?

HP MediaSmart Server Want to restore an individual file that is stored on the server, say a photo file in PHOTOS folder. I have a backup of the server but I don't see a way to restore a single file(s) from the server backup. Again, this is a file on the server, NOT a file backed up from an attached PC. Thanks.
Server Recovery and WHSConnectors on backup machines

I've got a two level question: I've got some strange things going on with my EX485 that lead me to believe that I may need to do a Server Recovery: 1. Every so often (maybe once per week) it will show that all three of the disk drives are failing and asks me to do a repair. I'll do the repair and then I'll need to shut off the WHS before the warnings go away. I'll also noticed that the warnings will go away if I simply restart the WHS. 2. I have the scheduled wakeup up time set to 7AM, and backup window 8AM to 11AM. I've just notices that the WHS wakes up at 1AM, not 7. This was my original wake-up time. I can't find out where to look for a task scheduler on the WHS to see if there is a left over task waking it up? 3. I had a few failed add-in installs, notably Lights-out. Does this sound like a Server Recovery is called for? If I do a Server recovery? 1. Do I need to shut down all of the WHS connectors while doing the server recovery? Do I need to re-install the...

I have a Wireless router and use a CPL to connect peripherals to the network. The main computer is connected to the network by an RJ45 cable. The laptop was connected by Wi-Fi but uses the CPL connection. You should know that I live in France but I am English. The instructions and the CDs for the WHS are in French. Here is the problem… The laptop lost its ability to connect via Wi-Fi, after trying to rectify the problem; I just bought the CPLs and forgot the Wi-Fi. Some weeks later the Laptop could not load Vista. I tried everything but in the end I had to use the restoration CD supplied by Toshiba, which reformatted the HDD, reinstalled Vista and the laptop came to life again. Then I did a complete Windows update (96 files!) and the Wi-Fi was also...

Is external Sever Backup Secure?

I'm considering using an external drive to backup WHS. Part of my decision is whether this backup is secure. If someone was through nefarious means acquire my external drive, could he replicate my WHS Server and then look at my data? The existing windows XP backup utility can require that a password be used to open the backup for restoring purposes. Is their equivalent functionality on WHS?

server won't backup

my mediasmart server was fine until about a month ago. Now it will only backup my computer until 55% then just stay there, it can be left to work and think for up to 48 hours and still does not get past 55% backed up. I am getting very nervous without a backup in a month and need to fix this. I have tried checking for updates etc and nothing has helped. I have the EX475 purchased august 2008.

Backup of USB drive external to the EX485

I have a 500G WD MyBookPro attached to my EX485. I have not "added" it to the storage or backup volumes in "WHS Console" because for the moment I want to access it as a separate NAS drive. But I want to share it off my newest platform, the EX485, rather than my older (read slower) laptop clients. I've sucessfully attached the drive in "WHS desktop", and shared it with full permissions to clients as the M: drive. I then mapped the M: drive on the clients with their destop explorer. My question is, how can I back this drive up onto the EX485 backup volume? Can I just mirror its root M: folder to the EX485 via "Folder Duplication"?

About to install automatic folder copy program...Have Restore Question

I need to implement a solution for automating the backup of the folders on the server to an external drive. I intend to install Folder Clone (folderclone.com). The manufacturer says it will work in the HP Mediasmart Home Server OS. I would like to create an image of the server before attempting to install 3rd party software. Normally, I create an image using the "Create an Image" feature in Vista Business. How can I do the same on the HP Server? I have used the backup feature in the MediaSmart console for all the data, but using this only saves my data, not the entire state of the drive which includes the OS, system settings, etc. Is there an easy way to restore the server back to the way it was (including the user accounts) in case something goes wrong? Thanks...
