The HP MediaSmart Server and Apple's Mac OS X

<img align="right" hspace="10" src="http://www.mediasmarthome.com/imagelib/contentitem/11067/f0f219158e118e83--3118d517-11df4aa70ad--e80-1049518315.jpg">While the HP MediaSmart Server is largely targeted to households with operating systems running Microsoft Windows, Mac users can still take advantage of many of the important features of the server. Introduction The HP MediaSmart Server is geared towards home users that need to manage, store, share, and protect an ever-increasing amount of digital content. Precious and often irreplaceable photos, music, videos, and other valuable documents are often scattered on various computers around the house or on remote web pages somewhere on the Internet. Plus, a growing number of households are using their computers to manage their finances, and keep valuable &ldquo;life&rdquo; documents such as wills, home inventories, and medical records. The desire to easily share your digital entertainment media and protect valuable documents demands a centralized repository that promotes sharing while providing protection from data loss. The HP MediaSmart Server is an excellent solution for the dilemma of managing a home&rsquo;s digital resources. It seamlessly supports up to ten PCs over the household network, providing file sharing services, supporting web-based photo sharing, automatically backing up the PCs and as a center for digital entertainment (e.g., streaming media). Importantly, it also supports remote access to files and PCs from anywhere...

New connection software was automatically downloaded and installed on the 27th. This was supposedly a Microsoft realease. My WHS has been running flawlessly for quite some time, but since this install my Port forwarding keeps failing and therefore I lose remote access capability. Also I have been looseing Internet connectivity, and have had to reboot my modem and router on several occaisions. I wonder if anyone else has experienced problems since this release. I guess if it continues I will attemt yo correct it by going back to the previous connect software. Marv

Webshare problems - ActiveX Photoldr add-in

I am using IE8beta, on Vista SP1, and have the HP photoldr control installed and active. When I try to use it to add photos to albums, I get the dialog box with an explorer-like folder tree in the left panel, and a blank right panel where photo shortcuts should appear. But, the folder tree wont let me browse, view folder contents, or expand folder subtrees, etc. so it's not possible navigate folders or to select photos to be installed. Anyone else have a similar problem with IE ActiveX plug-in for photo loading? I removed the plug-in and re-installed it, but get the same results. I have lots of photos and lots of albums to set up, so using a browser without the activeX add-in and loading photos one by one isnt practical for me.

Memory Upgrade and Installation

Hi, Looking for soem assistance: I spoke to HP yesterday regarding the upgrade of the memory of my new Ex745 device and they informed me no problem please go ahead and upgrade. I ask for specific details from HP reagrding the DRAM module and they told me what to purchase. I purchased the exact specs 2GB DDR2 DRAM memory module. I disassembled my new device by watching a video on you tube, which is failry straight forward once you know how. However installed the new module and it doesnt boot up all the hd lights stay red. Thus i deciced to put back in the 512 memory module and the device booted. Either: (1) I have a faulty memory module (2) there is a dip switch or jumper connector I need to move to get the new memory to work???? (3) I have screwed something up. Can someone please help as I may have to return the new memory module to the shop. Thanks Brian

Need help installing connector on Vista Ultimate

The install gets all the way to the point where it tries to "find" my home server. It hangs there several minutes before erroring out with "An unknown network error has occurred." I can ping HPServer. I cannot go to http://hpserver It looks like it is going to work because the status bar reads "Waiting for http://hpserver/home/default.aspx?gotodefault=true..." even though I did not enter the anything other than http://hpserver But then the page fails to load. As indicated in the troubleshooting document, http://hpserver:55000/enrollid/id.xml returns 1. However, https://hpserver:56000/enrollid/id.xml also returns 1 rather than 2. http://hpserver:55000/enrollid/id.aspx does return about a half page of XML, as the troubleshooting document indicates it should. Windows Firewall has two entries for Windows Home Server connector. One with a description of "No description provided" and one allowing C:\Program Files\Windows Home Server\Discovery.exe. The connector troubleshooter gives me 5 errors. The first is "The version of the Connector software does not match the version of Windows Home Server". This seems easy enough according to various sources; just run the install from \\hpserver\Software. But I can't even do that, since I cannot log on to that share. I tried with username of Administrator and a blank password. Of course, I get...

Problems between Media smart and Vista Ultimate

My HP Media Smart was up and running well with my wirkstations (2-XP &amp; 1-Vista Ult). Then on the Vista laptop the server would no longer accept my password (which had not been changed). I performed a serve restore and also a factory reset. When I install the server software all goes well until it tries to install the Connector portion. It never gives me the opportunity to create a new password, it goes directly to the login and asks me to enter the password...which it doesn't acept, since the password shoulod have been deleted with the factory reset. So I reset the server and initialize from an XP machine all is good. Then when I try to install on the Vista machine-same problem with the password. It doesn't accept the password that was created on the XP machine. Any ideas are appreciated.
