For the price of the MediaSmart Connect, I can't believe it isn't Netflix ready. I'm boxing mine up, returning it to HP, and buying something we can use at home (for a lot less). This was really short-sighted.

Welcome and Congrats to MitchSchaft, the first MediaSmart Home Moderator!

As a few of you may have seen, today we had a nefarious user try to dupe MediaSmart Home visitors into downloading some bad software infested with nasties. With the MediaSmart Home Community growing daily, it's high time we had a deputy around here to lend a hand and help moderate the boards. As it turns out, MitchSchaft (the one who saved the day today and called out that bad post) has lots of experience moderating forums in the past, and is willing to help keep the community forums here at MediaSmart Home clean, friendly, and safe for everyone. Let's all give MitchSchaft a warm welcome as our new mod, and a little kudos for taking on what is often a tough and thankless job. As the MediaSmart Home Community grows, we'll need more helpful community members to take charge and help moderate the forums. If you're interested in volunteering to help moderate, send me a private message and I'll contact you the next time we're looking to recruit.

Where's the Troubleshooting Hardware forum?

This is a great site! Looks great, and helpful people abound. Question tho... I just posted a thread re: an error I'm getting about the system being too hot , but I was confused about where to post this question. I was surprised to find no "Hardware Troubleshooting" or "Error Messages" sections, so I posted to "setup/installation". Just a thought!

Important June Site Updates - New Features Abound!

In our recent upgrade to our platform, we've introduced some great new community features, and I'd like to introduce you to how they work. Rating Content Items First, we've added the ability to rate other content on the site, such as individual forum threads. You'll also be able to see average user ratings for each content item. Go right ahead and start rating your favorite content items, and help other community members find the best stuff! Update And Personalize Your Profile Second, we've upgraded the profile screen, and added the availability of some great custom options. Here's what you'll now be able to do: Add your Twitter username Add your YouTube ID Add your Flickr account All of these will be visible when other community members view your profile. In addition, you'll also be able to select the country you live in , and your country's flag will be proudly displayed next to your avatar! Groups We've also enhanced the Groups section of the site. First, you'll now see a sidebar on the right hand side of your screen, where you can access "My Groups," the groups that you are subscribed to, with one easy click. You can also see...

The MediaSmartPoll

Just thought it funny (not ha ha funny; ironic funny). What is the primary way you use your MediaSmart server? To share files, photos, music, video media throughout the home. To access files remotely. To stream photos, music and videos to PCs, TVs and stereos in my home. For automatic backup of my household PCs and laptops. Share photos with remote friends and family. Well, I guess I'd have to answer the fourth one - backups. (God, I hope it's really backing up OK) I don't want to share anything throughout the home for fear of corrupting my files. My office (the only place I'd really use remote access) blocks that kind of access. I don't stream anything either (see #1). Photo sharing is kinda awkward - the MSS / MS home page and signon process is just a mess. So, overall, without the bug getting fixed and some fixes for web signon and other things, I have a very expensive backup system.
