It's the time of year we spend extra time with friends and family, from parents and siblings, children and grandchildren, and even the coat-tail relatives we see only on special occasions. With all this time spent with our loved ones, it would seem like a perfect time to whip out the home movies and share memories of the prior year. Jr.'s little league home run, little Cindy's school play, baby's first crawl, and even Mom's destruction of the kitchen during the Thanksgiving preparation. But we don't... Only rarely do home movies make it into holiday festivities. Has the reputation of home movie watching really beenso tarnished by crappy slideshows and 8mm projectors that we just give it a chance in the modern age? Or, is it that modern day hard drive and flash camcorders, the kind that store those digital memories in a folder on your home PC, make it too difficult to share during family occasions because no one wants to huddle around the office computer? It's time...

Video stream in Media Center..not working

I set up streaming for my server. I show the music and photo's. The video does not show though. I am using windows Vista Ultimate. What format do my videos have too be in so media center will recognize them? Like I said the photo and music show both on my PS3 and Laptop but the video does not. Also what format or type of file do I need to rip my video in so the applications just open it? Right now my videos are in mPEG4....PS3 format. If i click on start on my laptop and go to networking and click on the server Icon I can go to my shared video on the server and then select what program to run it and it runs. If I go remotely through WMS the files shows but won't give me an option of a program too run them. IF I double click them they say that they can't play that format. Any help would be great. This forum looks great....Hope you all can help. I'm new too using servers.

What? You would never do that? Sound a little too crazy? Well guess what... people do it every single day. Think about it. Uploading your most personal photos to a photo sharing service isn't really any different than giving a random stranger your vacation pictures. First of all, you put a log of faith into the service by expecting your digital memories to stay secure. Second, if you don't take advantage of the privacy options available to you (if available at all), anyone with a web connection... even strangers, wackos, psychos, and weirdos alike can browse through your personal pictures. Can't you feel they're googly eyes peering at you? Fortunately, the HP MediaSmart Server can help. Photo Webshare is a new way of managing and sharing photos. Not only does it give users the ability to upload and share pictures to anywhere with an Internet connection, but it also ensures the photos are stored safe and sound on a device inside your own home (instead of on a web site somewhere). Having it on the household network means that...

windows media player won't share

I've had my 42 in MediaSmart TV for 9 months and have had no real problems with it. I have 3 pc's connected to it my problem is that one of the pc's will not let Windows Media player share however the server gateway works fine. Have no help from Hp. Have disabled firewall and antivirus makes no difference. There is a media sharing wizard as a part of the gateway server and each time I run it all looks good and it puts an exseption in the firewall. When you go in WMP and look at media sharing the server and the tv are listed with icons. Thanks Dirk

A recent article in CNET brings attention to two new policies from U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The policies state that “Customs agents can routinely — as a matter of course — seize, make copies of and “analyze the information transported by any individual attempting to enter, reenter, depart, pass through, or reside in the United States.” (See policy #1 and #2 .)” A very scary proposition for a business person that travels internationally. It could be challenging to return from a business trip with acquired documents or notes from the trip and to have Homeland Security seize your laptop. They are lookoing for information that could reveal terrorists, drug dealers and people violating copyright infringements. As CNET states; “Are you sure your iPod and laptop have absolutely no illicitly-downloaded songs? You might be guilty of a felony .) Please note that the description above includes anyone DEPARTING the U.S. too. CNET, as well as other sites, do include some suggestions for making your laptop challenging for Homeland Security to acess the...
