Connector Upgrade Available nothing happens

On my 5 computer network 2 of the computers the warning says &quot; There is a connector upgrade available&quot;. I go through the HP update, then inside the home server console click on the upgrade on the respective computers. It brings up IE and I click on the Download Now button to upgrade. The screen pops up and I hit Run on both screens. It says downloading software from home server ..., 0% complete and then the window disappears and nothing happens. It worked on the other 3 but does not work on these 2. The console still shows that an upgrade is available for these 2 computers. I don't think that it is a connection to the home server because I can log in to it through the console on those 2 computers. Any ideas? Fixed the problem. Uninstalled the connector software. Manually installed the software from from the server software folder. That worked as opposed to doing the automatic install.

Most reports indicate that upgrading the amount of RAM to 1 GB is typically enough to ensure better performance from their home servers, most are opting to put in 2 based on the relatively cheap cost of memory upgrade modules. Head over to the Home Server Show , subscribe, and give them a bit of thanks for putting together a nice video.

HP Announces Policy Change Regarding MediaSmart Server Memory Upgrades

HP customer feedback and research shows that some customers are installing multiple add-ins and/or additional software to the MediaSmart Server, which can lead to a need for additional memory. Upgrading the memory, in and of itself, will not void the warranty on the MediaSmart Server. Damage to any part of the MediaSmart Server during the upgrade may violate the warranty, however, leaving the cost for repairs the responsibility of the customer. Customers should perform a backup to an external device before adding additional memory. HP is only providing information on a customer memory upgrade path at this time, and customers will not be able to send their MediaSmart Server to HP to perform the upgrade. Customers may be able to find technical assistance for the memory upgrade, however HP is not recommending or training authorized resellers to conduct the memory upgrade on a MediaSmart Server. HP has not qualified any particular DIMMs, but compatible memory includes 1GB or 2GB - DDR2 667 MHz DIMMs. Customers should not upgrade beyond 2 GB of memory. Other...

2008 Sept 23 WHS Update -- Problems

I installed the 9/23 updates for WHS a little while ago... (Everything has been functioning just fine for several months up to this point. Upgrades to PP1, etc. all fine. Did NOT install either of the HP-provided Add-Ins though.) Following the update I found that the MSS had not been &quot;discovered&quot; and the server icon was grey. The connector failed and executing &quot;Discovery.exe&quot; did not find it. I checked that all cables were connected and that the appropriate switch/router indicators were lit to indicate proper connections. I powered the MSS off (quick push of the power button on the rear followed by a wait for a shut down) and on again and observed the following in this order: 1. The MSS did not connect to either my Vista or my WinXP clients 2. The MSS was not visible on the network 3. The Connector Troubleshooter could not find the server 4. I could not connect to the server via RDP using the server name (&quot;ServName&quot;) 5. I could not connect to the server via RDP using the IP address (192.168.xxx.yyy) 6. I could ping the IP address (192.168.x.y) successfully 7. I could ping the server by name (&quot;ServName&quot;) successfully 8....

Microsoft Releases Home Server PP1 Fix

<img align="right" hspace="10" src="http://www.mediasmarthome.com/imagelib/contentitem/10771/f0f219158e118e83--384fa80-11c8fd4afc0--1b312089901904.jpg">It wasn't all that long ago that Microsoft unviled Power Pack 1 for Windows Home Server , which among many improvements, fixed an important data corruption issue. Microsoft today released another important patch for Windows Home Server owners, putting behind them what will hopefully be the last of problems associated to data storage and management on the Home Server OS. As described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 950193 , unpatched users running PP1 could cause files in duplicated folders to become unrecoverable if a hard drive goes unexpectedly missing or fails. The severity of the issue is unknown, or how likely you are to experience any data loss as a result of these events, as the typical user doesn't usually yank drives from the Home Server without removing it properly through the OS. Drive failures are a fact of life in disk based storage, but are hardly an everyday occurance for users. The short time between PP1's release and the patch today means that few users would have seen this problem. Regardless, any issue that can affect your precious data shouldn't be overlooked. Take the time to run Windows Update on your Home Server today and obtain the patch. If...
