Upper Case Temp Warning

I recently purchased a refurbed EX470. It ran OK for a while but now I have a red status light and an upper case temperature warning. The server is in a cool basement with plenty of ventilation. The lower case temperature is normal. The upper case temp is 80 degrees C. The top of the case is cool to the touch. The Upper and lower case fans show as running fine. I have the server turned off just in case. I currently do not have any drives in the top three slots. Is there anything in the upper case that could be damaged by a high temperature? I plan to open up the case to upgrade the RAM is there anything I should check or replace to try to resolve this issue?

Server Machine Conversion

Hello, I currently have a ex470. I have upgraded it to 2GB 667 RAM and there are 4 1TB hard drives in the machine. Even though the system has been good overall for file sharing, I find the web server is quite slow. I recently changed all my home computers from PC to MAC and have a pc with the following specs. - Core 2 Quad 2.66 - 4GB 667 RAM - 6 SATA connections on MOBO. I was wondering if there was any way that I can do the following... take my hard drives from my MSS and put them into my pc... start it up as if nothing changed... would there be any windows boot problems? or would it simply not work. also, if this doesn't work, what can i do in order to turn my "old" pc into my new WHS. Also, as a side note... anyone know if it would be possible to install OS X Server on my PC ? Thanks in Advance, Mike

System Temperature Monitor Gone Following Power Pack 2 Upgrade

After I upgraded my EX470 to Power Pack 2 I lost the system temperature reading under hardware status in the Home Server control panel. Is this normal? Was it removed? Do I have a faulty upgrade? Is there a way to get this back? I recently performed the processor upgrade and I am concerned about system temperature. My first Media Smart Server was returned due to high system temperature shutdowns and I want to ensure that I am not unknowingly damaging my server following the upgrade. Any help is greatly appreciated! Ken

virtual machines memory upgrade

I don't currently have a Mediasmart WHS; mine is made from my old laptop and a couple of big external USB HDs. It does the job for now until I am ready to upgrade to the right product. The one I want is the EX485 (my wife has a Mac) in which I will upgrade the system / first drive to either 1.5TB, or even a 2TB, but living in the UK this is not currently avaialable here so it carries a hefty premium for carriage from the USA and possibly extra import duties too. But, back on topic, the reason I would have for upgrading the memory is that I have a couple of virtual machines which I would like to host on the WHS which a memory upgrade would enable me to do without any degradation in host performance.

EX485 Memory Upgrade Will it take 4GB DIMM

Does anyone know if the 485/7 will take a memory upgrade to 4GB DDR2 6400 NON-ECC 800Mhz ? I have already upgraded the CPU to an E5200 and it has been running fine for over a week now. The memory is kinda expensive and I wouldn';t want to buy iut only to find it doesn't work. Tnx Tech

Hi Everyone: I just upgraded my brand new HP EX-485 WHS. I used the Intel Dual-Core E5200 (2.5GHz, 800 FSB, 2MB L2 cache). I followed Donavon West from www.HomeServerHacks.com instructions . (Thanks Donavon). The server is working just fine. There are no issues to report. Here's some pics: Thanks to everyone on this great forum and the entire WHS family.

Streaming Music from WHS with Subsonic

I have been looking for a way to stream music from my Windows Home Server without using some intermediary service for some time now. Most of the applications require some third party service to stream your media, that is, until I stumbled upon Subsonic. Subsonic promises to deliver the solution to streaming my music without using any third party service and claims to be an easy to install solution. http://computingondemand.com/?p=1871 Hope someone finds this useful
