I have a MediaSmart 470 that I've maxed out with vids and music. I've put in 4 3TB drives and would like to add on another Media Smart server. Would love some thoughts from others on: 1. Is it easy to run them in parallel? Assume they can be connected? 2. Is the performance the same? Should I increase RAM? 3. What Media Smart Server would you recommend adding on? 4. Any other tips or thoughts? Thanks SB

I actually have 2 SANS DIGITAL TR4U USB connected external drives connected to my EX475 and they work GREAT! Giving me an additional 8 drives. I use 4 drive on 1 TR4U as backup for the server. The other 4 drives in the 2nd TRU4 are all added to the storage pool.
I started with one ESATA but find the connection was never as solid as USB and no real difference was noticable.
Better that fighting dual server and settings.

Thanks -- I took your recommendation and purchased the TR5M version with 5 slots. Couple of questions:

1. Did you install the software included with the server?
2. Did you install the RAID backup or did the Media Smart Server's auto backup just work on that system automatically?
3. I've plugged in the drive and connected it to the Media Smart Server but it just shows up in the drive section... however, it doesn't seem to be calculating the space on that drive ... was there anything you did on the Media Smart software?

Thanks -- appreciate the help...

No, I did not install the Sans Digital software.
I did not install or set up any RAID config.
I just set the 1 switch in down position and the 2 switch in the up position and plugged it into the media server.
If I remember correctly, any new drives were seen just like any other new drive, asking you if you want to add it to the pool or use it for server backup.
hope it works well for you.
