Can anyone tell me where I can get a copy of the version 3.0 software upgrade HP says that they don't sell it any more?

All HP has now are the patches to 3.0 and the patches cannot be applied until the 3.0 upgrade is done

I went through this a few months ago and the HP rep told me that they had pulled the v3.0 software or in order to sell more new servers (as opposed to allowing upgrades of existing equipment). I have not been able to find it either. Good luck!

Hello to you both, I maybe able to help with this send me a PM for details.

Ksean, you have already had a pm from me about this, I assume your not that desperate for it as I have had no reply.

It is not that I am not desperate it is just that I was hoping to purchase a OEM disk.

I am very apprehensive about upgrading the server and screwing it up or worse yet losing the data. Currently I have 4 drives with 2 operating as the main drives and the other 2 backing the first 2 drives up. All these drives serve as backups and storage units for 5 computers.

With all the problems I have had with McAfee (jerks) screwing me around and the fact that there is a time period almost everyday that I lose access to the server, I assume because either HP, Microsoft or McAfee are doing some sort of unauthorized update, I am extremely apprehensive about doing anything to the server.

I realize it should be upgraded and I would also like to upgrade the memory but I am very concerned about loosing the data or access to the data. Upgrading the hardware is a piece of cake for me but with software issues I worry.

What I have is the v3 software for the EX470/75 an ISO file is an exact copy of the original dvd, hence you will get the same software as you would if you had the OEM dvd.

June 9, 2011 11:54 AM

Meaning? Are you making the file available???? I have the same problem

July 15, 2011 8:05 AM

Yes I too am looking for version 3.0 upgrade. is there help out there?

July 17, 2011 1:18 PM

I've got the original v3 discs when they were available, however as I believe the discs are upgrades I'd need to reinstall the original version... here lies the problem as I dont have them. Also I believe you really need to upgrade the HW to cope with the extras within v3 ??

July 17, 2011 4:49 PM

Hello Chrisfoster

The original v3 discs WILL let you install v3 without first installing v1, the word upgrade which was used for the v3 discs is misleading as in fact they are an upgrade on v1, but they are not a true upgrade in the meaning of the word where by as you thought you would first have to install v1.

If you are running the EX470/75 you will need to upgrade the ram to at least 2gig before you can run the v3 software.

Thanks Webdoc for your reply, that's saved me a job !

Anyway I woke up this morning to find I've got an unhealthy system drive so going to order a 2tb WD Green to replace it with and a 2gb mem upgrade which I plan to do alongwith the CPU upgrade I've had sat around for a few months plucking up courage to carryout.

I dont believe you can get anymore ram in these machines can you ?

Cheers

Do you know if there is a processor avaialble still to upgrade the EX470? I looked for one type on NewEgg that I read about on a forum site and that processor was no longer available for sale.

July 18, 2011 9:39 AM

The one I got was from eBuyer and it's a OEM AMD Athlon ADH164OIAA4DP which I believe is the one mentioned in a few posts I've read. Cost was £30+ from memory

July 18, 2011 9:41 AM

Hello Chrisfoster

You remove the 512 ram and replace with a 2gig stick, I think 2gig is the max but I am not 100% sure, maybe someone here will put us both right LOL

Thanks for the tip on the processor.

HP has updates on their site listed as Version:3.3.1.35433 and Version:3.2.1.34990 for the EX 485. Are they inclusive of the v3.0 update that is referenced in this discussion? If not, can anyone pass this ISO along to me?

July 29, 2011 8:23 AM

Hi davejohn

You need to install the version 3 software first, the two listed files on the hp website are update files for after you have installed V3.

I could help you with v3 if you had the EX470/75.

Hi, I have an EX475 and am in the same boat as others. I'm looking for the 3.0 software and can only find the update and patch on the HP website.

Please feel free to PM me if you can make a copy available.

Thanks

The system drive on my EX475 crashed, so I had to re-install. I found a torrent on pirate bay of the 3.0 w/update 1 server recovery DVD image. No need to download updates 2 and 3 from HP. These may be applied through the management interface.

The upgrade overwrites the boot partition, so settings and user accounts are lost, but data is preserved.

You might find it through www.torrents.net. Try a search string like: "hp mediasmart server 3.0 software update". Beware that the 3.0 web interface is kind of slow.

What's important to remember is that because there is a slight difference in hardware between the EX470/5 EX485/7 EX490/5 you have to use the right version of the 3.0 software due to drivers. The DVD is the complete WHS OS, not an upgrade including a bunch of Windows Updates, that's why HP could not make the update available for download because of Windows licencing. HP wanted to have their software embedded into the image so that users could not have a stand alone install of the MediaSmart software.

If you choose the Server Recovery option, you will not loose your data but you will have to recreate the User accounts and that will bring in the data for those users. It's the Factory Reset option that will wipe all the drives and data.

Also remember to unistall the desktop connector software before you start the recovery or else the install on the server will not complete and you will be left hanging.

Hey folks, I too need the update Disk ISO for an EX470. Both RAM and CPU are upgraded on mine so it should do the update fine. I'd really like to run the new Tivo Extender app but it requires 3.0.

Love my little server. I wish every device I owned was this reliable and functional.

Please PM me if you can help. Thanks in advance.

I also have a 470, and I'mm looking for that upgrade also. If anyone could get one, I'd appreciate it.

March 12, 2012 7:29 AM

You can do as I have done with my EX470 and upgrade to home server 2011, it's stock apart from a ram upgrade to 2 gig, I have not noticed any lack in performance by running 2011 instead of the 3 upgrade.

You will need to attach the server system drive to a pc without any other drives connected to it though to start the install of 2011 a guide can be found here http://www.kewney.com/posts/database/installing-windows-home-server-2011-on-h...

Non of the lights on the front will work as intended by hp though, you can unplug them but your front usb will not work.
