Categories: HP MediaSmart Server
Hi Guys...
Anybody having issues with after upgrading itunes to 10 not being able to see songs on server but being able to view the server name in the SHARED DEVICES panel ?
I am using to itunes 10 macs and both have same problem...
Thanks,
Greg
Yep, same here. I had to re-install iTunes 9.2.1.5 to get things to work again. Looks like I'll be on standby for a fix from Apple.
same here... maybe they can fix the problem with the playlists at the same time!!

Yep exactly the same problem here, I have built my own server so this is not something unique to HP either. Come on apple sort it out!!
Yup. Same thing here. Does anyone know if the problem has been reported to Apple?
I have the same problem with iTunes 10, using Windows 7 on my Client machine with the latest software & updates from Microsoft and HP on my server. The only way to get any songs displayed is to disconnect the server, and then you only have songs that are on the client computer.

And again... Same here. Reboot of server got the library name to come up but no songs. Win Vista
Yeah, whether its HP or something else...the issue is a Windows Home Server 2003 issue regarding iTunes 10. So somehow Apple has gone anti-Windows Server '03 on us.
Has anyone contacted Apple - I will tonight...... we will see how it goes.... :-/
Please be advised that if you use HP MediaSmart Server, Data Vault, or Firefly Media Server for streaming over iTunes, then make sure you do not upgrade to iTunes 10.
It has been reported that Apple's latest upgrade breaks access to streaming via Firefly Media Server (which powers iTunes streaming on HP's home servers as well as many other NAS devices). And although the home server will be visible in iTunes as a connected device, no tracks will appear.
For now sit tight and stick with iTunes 9, as how no workaround is available just yet.
How can I downgrade / re-install iTunes 9.2 ? Same problem with 10 and iTunes no longer working.
Downgrade iTunes 10 to iTunes 9.2.1 in Windows
Step 1. Go to C:\My Documents\My Music. Backup the entire "iTunes" folder to a safe location.
Step 2. Using the Control Panel to uninstall the following: Apple Application Support, iPhone Configuration, iTunes 10, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update and QuickTime.
Step 3. Reboot your computer
Step 4. Go back to C: My Documents\My Music\iTunes
Step 5. Rename the file iTunes Library.itl to something like iTunes Library.itl.backup.
Step 6. In the same folder, open "Previous iTunes Libraries" and find the most recent library backup, which should be named something like "iTunes Library 2010-09-1.itl" Copy this file, then paste it in C:My Documents\My Music\iTunes and rename it iTunes Library.itl
Step 7. Download either iTunes 9.2.1 for 32-bit or iTunes 9.2.1 for 64-bit (depending on your system configuration) and install the software.
Step 8. You may then need to recreate your iTunes library.
Voila! Your iTunes 10 is now downgrade to iTunes 9.2.1.
Download iTunes 9.2.1 here: http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes9/061-8602.20100719.Tnz92/iTunesSetup.exe
Thanks restlessnomad! ... will give this a go and get back up and running again. Appreciate it ....
I have the problem too. It would be nice to know if hp is planning a fix for this. Nonetheless, Nothing Apple does surprises me. I suppose they're getting ready for the apple music service and see any music server (local or otherwise) as competition.

Did the Itunes update / install create a recovery point on Windows, if so just do a roll back. If the Mac is running TimeMachine recover from there.
I know that the best way to get back my iTunes on Media Server is to go back to Version 9, however the reason I updated was because Secunia sent out a security alert on iTunes latest version of 9. So I guess I'm just going to have to live with my present situation until Apple of HP comes up with a fix.

How do I go back to Itunes 9 on a MAC?
Having the same problem, just went to Apple Store and they did not have an idea what I was talking about and they did not know how to go back to previous version.
This link tells how to downgrade both Mac and PC.
