I've finally managed to get the collector to find all music and video files and place them on the server, but it's fairly chaotic and i'm wondering if i can create folders and move the files into those folders.

For example, create "Horror", "TV", "Comedy", etc folders for my video files and access them that way. I'd like to do the same with music.  Is this possible and will the collector still find new files and place them accordingly?  Or am i barking up the wrong tree?

Ultimately, i'd like to have security attached to these folders so my son can't access R rated music and videos but still give him access to watch Family stuff.

Am i making sense?

I dont know how the file collector would know which movie is a horror or comedy. That's way beyond it's scope.

No, that makes sense and i understand that. I guess if i set up this particular type of file structure on the server, i'll have to manually move all files to their appropriate folder each time a new file is uploaded to the server.

But i can still assign security to those folders?

I'm thinking this all out, out loud. I think i just needed someone else to interact with to get it right in my head.

I'll be short. Here are two solutions for you.

1) Use a third party app like Dirmon (http://www.dragonglobal.biz/dirmon.html) to monitor your PC folders and copy movies to the server with XCopy (instead of using Media Collector).

2) (Better) Use a good front-end app like MyMovies or Media Browser to browse and organize your movie collection and restrict access based on meta data (ratings).

Best regards,
