Slightly different situation with me. I just upgraded the itunes software to the latest version (and the server (lx195) has stopped showing up. Anything i should be doing?
Categories: Computers and Laptops
Hi all,
I have an LX195 and am loving the experience thusfar. It works great with my current setup, xbox and all... save for one issue - iTunes.
I don't use iTunes at all, so support for it wasn't something I looked for. The GF, however, uses it quite regularly. No problem, right? Wrong.
No matter what I try, her up-to-date iTunes installation on WinXP doesn't see the shared/streaming library.
These are the steps I've taken thusfar:
- Made sure I can browse the system and access the media via explorer (\\mediaserver) from her laptop
- Enabled iTunes library sharing from within iTunes
- Set up full guest access.
- Enabled the iTunes server from the "Settings for iTunes" screen, not requiring a password.
- Have it check for new music every 5 minutes
- Restarted both the server and the computer... repeatedly.
The server manages to keep the 'Enabled' settings, and claims its up, but I still can't see it. I don't want to resort to having to run iTunes on the server...
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Alomg with everyrhing else that is going on in the background of your WHS, the iTunes lib is being updated. It won't happen in the 5 min refreash period, perhaps a day or two depending upon the number of songs you have.
First go to the Shared Folder for Music - under the User Acess Tab, make sure that the desired user has read/write permissions.
On the PC with the iTunes library, connect the iPhone / iTunes player and look on the left for the iTunes Media Server (or what ever you named it. There you will see all of your music files. In the iTunes menu select Add Shared Library or Shared Folder and poin to this shared music folder.
Now, all of your music will be available for iTunes.
I rip all of my music from CD to the Shared Music Folder in Mathematically Lossless Format (30,000 to 45,000 kbs per track. The iTunes Server automatically converts all of these tracks to much smaller files for my iPhone.
Thanks for your suggestion, betavirus. I checked, and the guest account has full access to the Music folder. However, iTunes does not display the Share in the left sidebar, nor can I find a menu to add the library. iTunes has home sharing enabled.
Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your suggestion but unfortunately like MrSpontaneous, the Mediasmart link on the left bar does not show up to begin with.
I have enabled the shared folders options within itunes but that does not do anything as far as the itunes and mediasmart combination is concerned. I did some more research and perhaps here is something interesting from the crunchgear website. It suggests that itunes 9 and and the mediasmart homeserver do not play well together.

Perhaps its not good to upgrade in a hurry!
I'm not 100% sure if this applies, (I have an EX470), but my iTunes clients on several PC's stopped seeing new music that was added to the PC's. My router has a firewall and I turned it off which allowed the new music to be aggregated to the MSS.
Hey guys,
Did you ever get this issue fixed?
I am having the same problem and have not been able to fix it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
My problem ended up solving itself. Seemingly a week later my gf saw the server showing up in iTunes.
