I'm confused on how it works. Let's say I use 2TB drives and I fill all 4 internal bays with them. I want it to be rundant in case of HD failure. Will I see 6TB total and the last HD is for backup such as RAID 0+1? If I add 4 more external HDs, does it come out to 14TB while one HD is still being used for backup? If this is true can I use all internal drives for 8TB and use one external HD for the backup?

I read more and I think I'm getting it. Let me see if I got this correct. The landing drive is 1.5TB but I should not use it just to make it easier to restore in case it fails. Now if I add three 2TB HDs in the internal bays that would be 6TB of space. Now I set it to duplicate but this is where I'm confused. How does it duplicate my data if all three HDs are full with my files? If one dies do I lose the data only on that drive or all? If not will I just be able to plug in a new drive and it will rebuild itself and put the data back for me?
Also does the backup drive need to be the same size as all my data? Meaning I have 6TB of data in the pool, now I need a 6TB expansion bay to backup that data?
