I would look for new firmware (1.32NAb09), install the firmware and clear it to defaults. It doesn't make sense that a PC will cause your router to lock up like that. Turn off DNS Relay on that dlink. It causes problems. I have the same router and it used to need rebooting once every few days for the internet connection drop problem.
The rebooting when you unplug the network connection is not a new issue. Mine (ex475) does the same thing and there is no fix for it that I know of. I've tried updating the NIC drivers and that won't take care of it. It'll do it almost every time I have to reboot my router. Nowadays, I shut off the server before I reboot my router. I have upgraded ram and that's it.

Update:
It just happened to me again, so after it did it's weird reboot after I unplugged and replugged the network cable, I decided to log in via remote desktop to investigate.
I was presented with an error message saying my system recovered from a serious error. I have screen shots of everything, along with 2 files (logfiles of the problem) that it wanted to send to microsoft for error reporting. I have both below along with a text file that has the error signature in it. I looked at the xml file, and it just lists drivers, and I am not 100% sure on how to read .dmp files. So if anyone does, that would be great.
Here are the files:

Also, this is the web page that I was brought to after the error report finished:

Hi from France !
have EXACTCLY the same problem and symptoms whith my EX470 and my Netgear router. No solution found at this time. Help us !
Hi, I have the same problem with a linksys router so I dont think its a router problem.
Mine happens every few days though and I have to actually reset the server by holding the button in till it turns off.
Do you guys have modified servers or what programs do you have running? I upgraded the processor and installed all kinds of addins and other stuff like svn server and bittorrent server etc that I cant pinpoint it down easily. My first thought was the new processor is overheating but I can leave it running loaded for 24+ hours with no problems....
Have you looked at the event viewer for any erros? I was having the same problem and my event viewer was showing unexpected system restarts in the event logs. It took me a while to get my MSS working good again, but in the end it was the power supply. I upgrading my power supply to a higher wattage with a smaller former factor. I have not had a problem since doing this. I will warn you though the upgrade is easy, but nothing exists as a plug and play out of the box.
Do you have any additional Add-ins loaded on the server and if you do, have you tried uninstalling them to see if they clear up the issue?
"everything will be ok in the end. if it's not ok, it's not the end" - unknown
I did look in the event viewer at one point and didnt find anything of interest. However, I did suspect it may have something to do with the power supply even though it passes the stress testing. I have a spare 420w sitting around which Ill plug it in outside of the case for a few weeks to see if that resolves the issue.
Yes, unfortunately I have many addins and other things running which I installed at around the same time. It will just take a long time to pinpoint the exact cause since I cant force it to have its problem. I have to change something... wait a few days. Try something else... wait a few days. I was hoping someone might have had a similar experience which they fixed to avoid all that. Since the power supply fixed someone elses issue Ill try that first. Thanks for the responses. Ill post back here if it works in case others have the problem.
Hi drwebster93,
I'm having the exact issue you described. Did you have any luck resolving the issue?
Thanks,
Fielding
Hello again,
I have tried various things to no avail including trying a 430w power supply (with re-pinning it). At some point my server decided that it would not show itself on the network regardless of what I did. The server seemed to be working fine as it would shutdown normally and start up normally I just couldnt see it on the network anymore. So it required a server recovery.
Im happy to report that this solved all my issues so far, however I have only installed the initial HP updates and all the MS updates. I did NOT install the latest HP update that installs PVconnect and removes the system temperature.
System uptime is just over 5 days which is not alot by any means, but considering the problem I had, this is very good. I guess I will slowly install all the things I previously had every 5 days or so to see if the problem will re-appear.
Just a quick tip that you can try that could very well resolve your issue.
Turn UPnP off in your router. The server does use it and sometimes it will try and take controll of the router. This can happen with any device that has UPnP access to the router.Specially if two devices attempt to use and configure the same port.
