I need to implement a solution for automating the backup of the folders on the server to an external drive.  I intend to install Folder Clone (folderclone.com).  The manufacturer says it will work in the HP Mediasmart Home Server OS.

I would like to create an image of the server before attempting to install 3rd party software.  Normally, I create an image using the "Create an Image" feature in Vista Business.  How can I do the same on the HP Server?

I have used the backup feature in the MediaSmart console for all the data, but using this only saves my data, not the entire state of the drive which includes the OS, system settings, etc.

Is there an easy way to restore the server back to the way it was (including the user accounts) in case something goes wrong?

 Thanks...

I don't see how that's possible considering it's headless, no DVD/CD drive, etc. I'm sure somebody will come along with a better answer.

But, I have installed and use SecondCopy to make automatic backups. Both to another drive/PC or my webspace via FTP. No worries there.

I downloaded the .EXE of SecondCopy to the desktop of the server. When I double click to install, it says it doesn't recognize the file type or I don't have permission. I logged into RD as Admin, do you know what the problem could be?

Try to right click on it, go to properties and choose Unblock. Other than that, I don't know :o.
