I built a home server and recently replaced it with the EX495. I use IDrive for online backups on both the old server and now the EX495. I have been using IDrive for well over a year now and love it. I have never had any issues with it. I like the pricing of it too. $4.95 per month for 150 gigs or $14.95 for 500 gigs with the family pack. There is no console addin with the program but it works fine without it. You do not need to be logged in for it to work because it installs as a service. Use remote desktop to install it, set it up with the files you want to back up, and then log back out. You're good to go then. There is a free version with 2 gigs of backup space so you can try it out. http://www.idrive.com

I was able to exchange a recently purchased Ex487 for the new Ex495.
I was surprised to learn that HP discontinued support for the Amazon S3 online backup, and has no alternative replacement for the Ex495. Instead, HP's website suggests that an HP online backup solution is "coming soon". Consequently, I can no longer perform online backups, and I had a heck of time trying to access my Amazon S3 data without a backup/restore client. I was able to eventurally get access to my data with an independant S3 client.
I realize I can make backups and store them offsite, but I want an AUTOMATIC disaster recovery backup system (that's why I bought this system in the first place). I saw the thread on "The best online backup solution", but those solutions do not apply to the Ex495 since Amazon S3 is no longer supported.
I tried installing the Ex470 Amazon S3 Addon (version 1?) to the Ex495, however, the backup addon cannot install on the Ex495 (install immeadiately complains about incorrect version).
How can I get the S3 addon for patch 2.5 that was installed on the Ex487?
Any other suggestions on performing automatic Ex495 online backups? Thanks for the suggestion, iDrive works great.
Funny, I had used iDrive for my PC backup a while ago, but didn't consider it for the server. I just thought the server would need a special addon.
I installed iDrive on the EX495 without any problems, and it automatically backs up my selected server folders.
