Hi guys,

I have a EX485 and a few months ago I did a pc restore on one of my laptops with out a problem. The laptop found the serveron the first try and everything went very smooth.

Then about a month later in a different laptop I upgraded that hard drive and tried to do a pc restore but the laptop could not find the server. I figured it was because it had a new hard drive and may have been missing something it needed to find the server so I just reinstalled everything.

Well the other day a Windows update for Windows 7 RC caused a problem with my Microsoft Outlook that will not allow it to open so I wanted to do a PC restore. I know I could try uninstall Outlook and reinstall it and hopefully that would fix the problem but I am not sure if the update caused any other problems that I have not found yet.

Anyway when I go to do the pc restore it can't find the server again. BTW for some reason everytime I turn off my desktop the network light on the server turns red until I turn it back on again. The server still works fine and can be accessed from another pc so I am not sure why it does that. The desktop is the only wired pc in the house so I am not sure if that may be the reason.

I have done a lot of searching online and any suggestion I have found I have tried and still not finding the server so I am hoping to find a solution here because I don't want to sit on the phone with HP forever.

Thanks,

Mike

Anyone? It still can't find my server.

Here's a few different things to try (in no particular order):

When you start the restore disk and you reach the part where it will search for the server, try the manual process and enter your server name (especially if you changed the name from the default).

Unplug your Internet connection from your router and retry the restore disk.

Power down both server and desktop. Connect the server and desktop directly together with a stand alone switch (if you have one) or directly with a network cable, start the server and retry the restore disk.

"everything will be ok in the end. if it's not ok, it's not the end" - unknown

is this a 64bit system??
if so, you might have to get the 32bit drivers for it

Yes, it is a 64bit system. Where do I find the 32bit drivers?

go to pc's maker and get the 32bit network driver. The pc restore disk is 32bit.....so only the 32bit driver will work. Good Luck!

Having the same problem with a 64 bit Windows 7 Profession System.  Did the 32 bit drivers work for finding the server?

I have never been able to find the drivers I need so I still don't have it working.

I will pursue today if I get time. I noticed this morning that my 32 bit Vista Laptop sees (1) Network device but when I put the server name in it is not finding it where my 64 bit Win7 Pro laptop doesn't even see any network device.
This is via a wired connection. I 99% of the time use these wireless and they have no problem sending backups, files etc to the HP Mediasmart server wireless.

I will backup tonight with Acronis True Image 10 that supports Windows 7 via usb2 to make sure I have a valid recoverable image before I get to far with testing. Once I get all this working with the Media Server I will post to you how I did it.

When I first purchased this mediasmart server I used an old XP workstation and installed the workstation software. Then wiped out the windows directory on that PC where it wouldn't boot. Put the boot disk in and plugged the wire in and everything worked as advertised--rebuild my entire PC in 8 minutes.

That's what I want now. BK

I seem to have the same problem with a laptop running vista 32bit
and a laptop running win 7 64bit

I am using version 2 of the Boot disk and it will not find either Vista 32 bit Business PC or Windows 7 64 bit Professional. All my XP computers are found perfectly.

I have tried the setup with a Cisco Gigibit switch and the PC only STILL DOES NOT WORK. This must be a New Updated Boot Disk for VISTA-WINDOWS7. Does anybody know how to get?

In my opinion, the windows 7 will never be found until PP3 is released...and the Vista should have no trouble being found...
are you certain that you're getting the right driver for the Vista system?

I have downloaded the beta version of PP3. Have you tried it? Any Issues or should I wait for the release Version?
