I'm not sure where or if you can get a motherboard for it. HP doesn't have a resource for spare parts that I know of :(.
I'm in the New York City / Westchester area, and hoping anyone can suggest a service provider for repair of an HP Media Smart EX470 WHS. The NIC is bad, and that repair is beyond me. Appreciate any advice.
Thanks

You could try a USB Ethernet adapter. That might get you working again. Of course, you have to get into the server once to get it installed and configured... that is the tricky bit.

Thanks. Called HP Parts at the number listed, and they don't have motherboards, or have an out-of-warranty service provider (I bought the WHS in Nov '07 so past the warranty period). Looks like the only solution is to buy a replacement server, and pop the old hard drive in. The NIC on the current unit got fried in a power surge, so I'm hoping the hard drive is OK, but will check.
Thanks again to all for the quick responses/comments.

It is my understanding that HP now offers out of warranty service. Details still sketchy.

Good news . . . your understanding appears to be correct. I called today (1-800-474-6836), and arranged to have the out-of-warranty process started. It's a $65 charge, whereby HP sends a box and shipping labels to me, and I return the unit for diagnostic check. They then quote a price to repair, and if I choose to use them, $35 of the original charge is credited towards the repair. FedEx shipping all around is included in the $65. I'll try to keep this posted with any updates on how this works out.

How did it go?
Did this service work for you? How much?
I have a failing BIOS and need to get the motherboard diagnosed and the broken parts replaced.
Hope they catch on soon with spare parts, seems to be a market for it.
It worked out fine. All-in, including the initial $65, it was about $210. Not sure if the economics of that vs. a new machine workout exactly, but I was happy. No hassles and about 7-10 day turnaround from start to finish. The server started right up with no problem when I got it back.
Good luck.
