If you have a Windows Live ID you can register for a free "XXXXX.homeserver.com" address through Microsoft. I've been using it for a while and it works great! Directions to do this should be in the remote access setup.

I'm just getting started with remote access and I guess I need to pay for a domain name registration. Anybody recommend the best/cheapest place? GoDaddy? TMZ?
Sorry to be such a "newbie", but when I use my Windows Live ID to attempt to register a new domain using "mynewname.homeserver.com" -- it tells me I have to "configure DNS with my domain registrar's website". Does this mean I have to register my name with a service?
The MSS should go through the setup of this right within the control panel - no need to nav to MS's site directly to do this. The MSS will set it up all for you. When I went through it, I signed up for the homeserver.com address right through the MSS and it worked "automagically," for lack of a better word :)
Have you tried setting it up right through the MSS?
My 2 cents: homeserver.com does not work for me. MSS is saying that my server name is registered but when I am trying to access it, IE can not open the page. I have openned all required ports on the router, still does not work. I have no clue what to do. Call Bill Gates? :-)

I can only access mine at my Homeserver.com address via HTTPS as my ISP blocks port 80 (as most do) and you need to use 443 which is HTTPS. Also some ISP don't allow loopback connection so it will be unreachable from inside your network. You need to test it from outside....

I'll add my 2 cents as well. The best option in this case is the free option. I've used it and it works great. As for regestering domains I use: http://order.1and1.com/

Gents,
I spent about hour on on-line chat with AT&T U-verse support lady. I felt that she was happy to work with someone who knows exactly what needs to be done. To make this story short, she opened TCP 80, TCP 443 and TCP 4125 on AT&T hub, the same ports were already opened on my 2WIRE router, I have rebooted router and... Tada! It works now... but only from outside: I still can not access homeserver.com from behind the AT&T hub. Which is not a problem, if you do not need to do troubleshooting.
Bottom line: I take my 2 cents back. Amazingly, something that is not the core MS business, works.
