HP's directions for install of this application for EX370/475 indcates going to settings and selecting HP MidiaSmart Server in the left hand menu.  My list does not have this liste.  It is stated that it has to be 1.3.8.25155 in order to make the install work.  I have tried all of the selections , including resorces, and fail to find any Version # such as specified.  Any help on this would be appreciated

Thanks in advance!

Marv

i also would like to lend a hand, but i am not sure what you are trying to accomplish.
Are you trying to install on the MAC?

The point I am trying to make is that I am following HP's direction for the install of this release for the EX470. What hey are stating is that if I bring up settings in the console I should see a listing on the left side labled HP MediaSmart server, and be able to determin if I have the proper version installed in order to install the MAC release. This does not exist in my left clisting, and when I try to run the HP MSS.dmg file Windows reports it is an unknown file type. So therefore I can not seem to have the ability to install.

The .dmg file needs to be run on the Mac. It is not a Windows program....

Here's a link to the instructions for installing the client software on Macs:

Oh and the the info your looking for is on the Hardware Status section on the left hand menu. HP must have changed the name of the menu item in one of their updtaes.

Thank you for clarifying that the Ver. number was actually in Hardware Status. Now I have an additional problem. The version # I have is 1.3.6.21622. HP states I need 1.3.8.25155 in order to make the MAC install. I have repeatedly gone to updates, and it always says there are no updates available. How do I go about getting this update by other means? I would call HP but my Server warranty has expired. my BIOS is VER. RO2 dated Friday July 7 2007.

Thanks again Marv

How are you checking for the update (on which tab in the console)? You should be looking on the main Mediasmart tab:

Click on "Check for updates" in the top left... If that doesn't get it you can always grab it from HP:

OK, I know I am becoming a pain in the neck, but with your help I have created my "Mac" share on the server, and also ran the .dmg on the Mac.  The problem I have now is that when I try to choose the backup tab on the Mac, it fails to find an available drive.  I have tried different size requirments clear up 1 TB to no avail.  This is after it has shown success in findin the server.

Thanks Marv

Hey there... I'd like to see if I can help but I'd like a little clarification on what exactly you are trying to do on the Mac.

Before I start asking questions, though, I want to make sure you are aware that the MediaSmart Server is designed for "blended" Mac and PC households. That isn't to say you can't use it in a Mac only household, only that you won't be able to properly administer the MSS or set it up without a PC.

So, as long as you have a PC on your network, the very first step to getting the MSS set up properly is installing the software on one of the PC's in your network and going through the entire setup, adding users, etc.

Once you do that, you can update the software (both the HP software and the WHS software) through the Home Server Console automatically, again in Windows only.

Once you have the newest updates installed, you can find directions to install the Time Machine support for the EX470/475 here, if that's what you mean by setting up a "backup:"

http://www.mediasmarthome.com/blog/entry/12202/HP-Releases-Amazon-S3-Apple-Ti...

As far as the other shares on the server, as long as they are public and you are running the latest version of Mac OS X (10.5.x) they should just show up - no need to create aliases or install any special software to see the shares.

Hope this helps!

Marv...

I was in the same boat as you.. kept getting errors saying that I did not have enough space, etc.. when the Mac/backup folder existed...

I took a chance on semantics hoping it might pay off....for us that have the older EX475, our servers defaulted to HPMEDIASERVER as the device name, but I noticed the instructions always had HPSERVER as the name of the server.

I took the liberty of renaming my server to HPSERVER (used remote desktop connection and went to Control Panel/System/Computer Name and changed it). Your server will have to reboot after this change.

Once I did that, I used the HP MediaSmart Media Control Center settings on the Mac, changed the login to point to server HPSERVER and once I did that, the backup file creation worked like a charm.

You may want to try this and see if it works for you as it did for me..., perhaps a bug where they have hardcoded the path to expect HPSERVER and nothing else...
