First thing to try is running a chkdsk /f /r on the Vista machine and see if that clears up the issue.

I have my Mediasmart 475 backing up my three Windows XP machines and my Windows Vista Ultimate machine.
Recently I had to re-install the newest Windows Server Connector Software on my Windows Vista machine. Everything went well in the installation. The computer can get me into my server but it fails every time I try to do a backup...manual or automatic.
The error message says "the computer failed to take a snapshot of the volume for backup. Any ideas?
The backup may be too big for the available drives in the server. Can I add additional drives and if so, do they need to be spec'ed in any special way?
Any suggestions on brands if that is the problem?
Thanks

I did chkdsk and then tried to backup again. No luck. It still says failed to make backup image.
Any other ideas? Very strange since I can easily connect to the home server and manually copy files from my Windows Ultimate computer to the server itself.
Help?
Are you running any type of auto defragmenting software?
Antivirus (what manufacturer and is it up to date)?
How much free space on the server?
How much free space on the drive(s) your backing up?
If your backing up multiple drives (C:, D:, E: etc) have you run chkdsk /f /r on all drives?
Also try this, let your Vista machine boot up but don't log in. On another machine, open the WHS console and start a manual backup of the Vista machine. See if it completes, if it does then most likely something that runs after you log in is causing the issue. If it still fails we'll keep looking for the issue.
