Hi All,

Can anyone help solve a problem with a EX475 that cannot delete a file either direct via remote  desktop or via a share folder from another PC. The error message is "error deleting file or folder. Cannot delete xxx.x : access is defined. make sure disk is not full or write protected and that the file is currently is use"

This is detected in the consoles network health window as a conflict. It happens to one file in one directory - all other files in this and other directories are fine.

The config is 4 x 500GB drives, which were upgraded recently from the standard 2 x 500GB due to a lack of space. However these problems did not coinside exactly.

I have tried variuos things including permissions and attributes + checkdisk but nothing will solve the issue. The only clue is that the properties of D drive show as full on the pie chart but space is available in the exact numbers, problem with my upgrade of storage?

Cheers Steve

Go into the WHS console and check on the "Server Storage" tab to see if all your disks are healthy and added to the pool. When you added the new drives, how did you add them?

Maybe you can try Unlocker as a last resort. It's just a small piece of software. Once you install it, right click on the file you can't delete and choose "Unlocker" and choose the delete option:

Hi Guys,

thank you for the input but I still have the problem.
The console reports all disks (4 in total, 2 ST350063 & 2 new Hitachi drives) heathly, however the photo folder in shared folders is "failing (check health)"
I installed the drives and added them to the pool as stated by HP / WHS.

I have installed the unlocker program on the machine. when run on the file it reports "no locking handle found" but offers further actions including delete and rename. The delete fails but offers the action on a re-boot - after a reboot the file is still here. A re-name also fails in a similar fashion

I notice that D drive contains a DE folder on its root thats contains the troublesome file as well as some new files. What is the DE folder and is it a clue? The other point to mention is that the photos folder is 460GB and therefore consumes also a complete disk.

Thank you for your help
Steve

The DE folder is the part of the Drive Extender. I wouldn't mess with it. Access your files via the desktop shortcut or via D:\shares only. You can try to run the following on the file from a command prompt and see if that clears up the error:

"fsutil reparsepoint delete [filename]"

"everything will be ok in the end. if it's not ok, it's not the end" - unknown
