Is there any way to assure this compatibility ? Recent drivers just provide 10.5 or upper

Thanks.

Same issue with EX485 as well - marketing and product info say compatible with Mac OS X but the installation disk does not have a 10.4.11 compatible file on it. No downloads either... I'm presently invoking Admin Console through the Remote Desktop Connection tool for Mac but I'm not able to connect the Mac shared folder on the Home Server with my MacBook running OS 10.4.11

Any updates or known workarounds? Please?

Trying the following workaround:

This workaround was not the answer to the problem. Thank you anyway.

I am still carrying hope that perhaps HP will have published an update for MAC issue; as you said commercial deceived me too.

I spoke with the Apple side, they said: I have to upgrade my OS with any 10.5 version. That was their only solution.

Thanks.

All that is mentioned marketing and product info is:

Set up fast: just plug it in, connect it to your wireless router (sold separately), and load the software on your PCs and Macs5

5. For Mac OS X 10.5 or later; Windows PC required on your home network for server setup and Windows Home Server Console access.

Actually it states compatibility with "OS X" in general; moreover, there is an FAQ or KB article on the HP side that specifically points out that backup function is 10.5 but that all other functions are compatible earlier versions of OS X. That's the functionality I would like to see instantiated. I can use SuperDuper or Retrospect to do backups on 10.4.11.

Can anyone comment on the possibility of enabling Macintosh File Services on the Windows Home Server?

Is anyone familiar with the QAM functionality of Windows Server 2003 on which Home Server is based?

Is there a member of the HP MediaSmart Server team checking in on these forum issues?

From the online marketing and product info:

"And it's easy to set up--just plug it in, connect it to your wireless router (sold separately), and load the software onto your PCs and Macs.

Centralize your iTunes music libraries on the MediaSmart Server for playback to any networked Mac or PC running iTunes.

File Sharing and Storage: Effortlessly centralize your files and access them from any PC and or Mac on your home network.

Mac Backup: Back up your Macs to the MediaSmart Server using Apple's Time Machine software.

Server for iTunes: Centralize your iTunes music libraries and playlists on the server for playback to any PC or Mac running iTunes on your home network.

File sharing for computers running Microsoft Windows Vista (32 & 64 bit), XP Home (SP2) or XP Professional (SP2), Media Center Edition 2004 (SP2) or later, Mac OS X, or Linux."

Is there some doc or other info about setting up iTunes or file-sharing functionality with a Mac 10.4.11 client?

Same problem here. Needing a 10.4.11 compatible add-in, or for HP to realize people do own computers that are more that a year old and write software for them. :)

Hello

Leake, I don't want to offend you but my question was certain and it's in the my thread caption. Please let focus on this issue when we get any answer then we can move on to other issues. I know it's common problem for IT person we want to solve many problems on the one hand and we always skip the certain point :)

It has been almost 1 month when I publish this thread but there are still no solution.

The only solution came from Apple and they said Uppdate your OS how about HP side.

Right - well Ali you are not specific enough about what functionality you are looking for... Of course the right answer is to update your OS to 10.5 - so your general question has been answered and this thread is dead. Otherwise, the functions I've identified are still open for discussion and will likewise satisfy owners of models 485 and 487 alike.

If you are concerned about backups then you can update OS or engage a workaround. You could use SuperDuper, Retrospect, or do what I did and save a copy of your disk image to the server manually via Disk Utility.

If you are concerned about media collection you are out of luck. You will need to manually copy or move the media files to the server.

If you are concerned about iTunes integration its done already through FireFly and Bonjour.

If you are concerned about media streaming its done already through Twonky and most any browser.

If you are concerned about instantiating the server console its done through RDC (MS remote desktop connection) app for Mac.

If you are concerned about native file sharing between Macs and PCs or the server then you simply need to install the Macintosh File Sharing services on the Home Server networking components area.

If you are concerned about other functions or add-ins they are controlled through the server console panel.

If you are concerned, as I am, about the lack of a Mac OS 10.4.11 client for the HP SmartMedia 485/487 home server then I think we are both out of luck until HP builds one, but there are reasonable workarounds (per the above) for most of the functions that client might provide.

I thought I was helping your thread by providing specific examples to HP staff but you are welcome to own this going forward - good luck.

I do believe that is the point. The only reason to buy an HP product instead of just building my own server using WHS software is for the ease of use. It would be nice if HP came out with a client for "older" OS's (I mean they are not ancient - come on). I think we are all hoping that HP will or in the absence of that happening that one of our genius programmers will take up the challenge and build an add in.

Cheers all.
