The MSS does not use or support RAID. WHS implements a "Drive Extender" techjnology that is similar to RAID-1 (mirror) but has a number of advantages. Check out the Drive Extender Technical Brief available at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd309758(WS.10).aspx

Yes, you "can" change the OS in MSS but you need to get an adapter cable to access the Video/keyboard/mouse connector on the motherboard. I believe almost everyone who has tried this has found it is possible to do but valuable only as an academic exercise.
