SOS +++ SOS +++ SOS : I need urgent help please! After more than a year of successfull usage of my MediaSmart Server I was experincing network problems. While investigating I was connected to my HomeServer via RDP - not via the Console. The console could not connect because of unknown network problems... But I was able to connect via RDP from my Vista machine - also was able to connect to the different file shares. Wasn't only able to connect via console.

And so while connected via RDP to the home server and trying to reset/repair the network connection I was disabeling the network card - to reset the card and receive a new IP .... My next planned step was to enable the card .... BUT - offcourse - as I was now disconnected because I disabled the network card .... All you professionals are very familiar with what stupid thing I did .... Frown

Has please anybody any very good idea how I can enable the network card again? If I could connect a keyboard and monitor ... I knew what to do but as the home server is a headless machine ..... Any hint is very welcome .... Wink

Time for a SERVER RESTORE. Remove any non-pool storage drives and any non-storage USB devices first. You will need to re-install all updates (wait them out at the 14% point -- it can tahe HOURS there). Then you need to re-do users and permissions and re-install all the Add-Ins. Depending on the amount of data you have it may take considerable time to rebuild the "tombstones" and get DE set up correctly. Wait at least a day before re-installing any AV software so you don't have too many things going at once. It's a bit painful but your data will be intact. If you need additional help you may get a quich\ker response over at http://www.mediasmartserver.net/forums/

Do NOT choose the Factory Reset option as that will format your drives and you will loose data.

Bummer you started the Restore. There are a couple of posts on mediasmartserver.net that show how to blindly set the network card back to the way it was.

If this does NOT work out I recommend that you search and then post if necessary over on  . There is a more technically-oriented MSS community there and I am sure someone will be able to help you. (I'm not going to have high-speed access to the internet for a few days.)

I apologize for forgetting about the "blind" solution posted just above (unverified member "Dieharder"). I managed to loose a bunch of bookmarks a while back and have not had the time to find them in my backups! FWIW, I find the restore a preferable approach anyway, especially if one has been using the Desktop like you were. Too many times there are multiple problems and, in the long run, the "longest way around is the quickest way home"!!!

Time for a SERVER RESTORE, yes ... My first time doing this. But it worked fine till the point where the restore process starts the connector setup on the client pc. The hard drive light bar on the server is purple indicating that the set up on the first computer is still incomplete. On the pc starts the Media SmartServer Setup with a number of errors. The buttons in the window are blank, unlabeled, variables from an ini file can not be found ... A sI knew what button is labeled Next and as I knew in the next window what button is labeled Install I came that that point where right after pushing the button Install the Setup Main Menu is experincing a problem and stops .... So I am not able to pass the last mile. Any hint is very welcome please! SOS

Are you still having problems? (I was away for a week, sorry!)

I suggest you take this one over to  . Please post a link here so folks in the future will be able to follow to a conclusion.
