I have a ITouch and can access different libraries wirelessly using the itune remote app.   I wonder if anyone has tried loading itunes on the Media server itself so that you don't have to run from only a pc.   I also have airport express devices connect to to main sounds systems and other external speakers.

I'm pretty sure someone had tried and just want to know the down side if there is any.    Only thing I could think that maybe apple updates could be problematic.

I was wondering the same thing.

Having MSS stream directly to airport(s) would make for a cheapest (about $100-$150 per zone) whole home audio system. For comparison, the next best option - Sonos, runs close to $400-$500 per zone.

Has anyone tried such set-up?

Best regards,

HP uses Firefly to stream iTunes files. I don't think iTunes itself will install directly on the MSS.

You need to connect to the server via remote desktop, and install iTunes on it. That's the only way to get it to stream to the Apple TV. I have not done this myself but am thinking about, here is a link to a discussion about it, there are plenty more if you google

I think the following link may be helpful. http://www.mediasmarthome.com/forum/thread/10142/ITUNES/?highlight=itunes

Right now my Itouch only sees and controls the Itunes library on my laptop, where Itunes is loaded. From the laptop I can see and play music from the HP WHS as a Shared Device but can not control it or add it as a library via the Itouch. I believe the only solution is to load Itunes on the HP WHS. OR set up your HP WHS as a "Z" drive and change where Itunes looks for music in the Itunes preferences. That should make the Itouch see the Z drive as athe library. Make sense??
