My MediaSmart Server is indicating that one of the shares is failing. Status on the Shared Folders shows the statu of my "Public" share with just 1.1GB of data as "Failing (CHeck Health)"

I'm not sure what the problem is though. yThe share seems to mount and work just fine and Server Storage panel shows both my drives as healthy. I've RDP-ed into the server and checked the disks. They seem ok there as well.

 Any suggestions/pointers?

 Thanks.

What model MSS? How many disks? When you say you "checked the disks" how did you check them?

I suspect a disk problem. By far the best way to check the disks is to shut down the MSS and, one at a time, check ALL the disks on another maching using either CHKDSK x: /R or by opening the drive properties, going to the tools tab, selecting "Check Now", checking BOTH checkboxes and clicking on Start. With large disks this operation will take a LONG time.

When you test the system drive remember that there are TWO partitions on the drive that need to be tested. Test them both.

Thanks for the reply. I have a month+ old Model EX475 with 2 750GB Disks.

The problem has gone away now after some fiddling. Here is what I did. I went to settings Backup on the console and then under "Backup Cleanup and Database Repair" I did a "Repair" and followed it up with a "Cleanup". After that my Shared Folders status are showing "healthy" now.

Not sure what went on there. I figured there was some kind of corruption since I found the following in my Event Logs

The entry in the hash map cannot be updated.

Context: Windows Application, SystemIndex Catalog

Details:
Unspecified error
(0x80004005)

Anyway, it seems its all ok now. I might for good measure do a chkdsk but this unit is pretty new.

Well, your problem was with Shared Folders. You cleaned up the client Backup Database and no longer have the symptoms.

Even more now I suspect a disk problem in there as what you have really done is not to fix the Shared Folders (they are separate) but to reallocate some disk space.

To be safe I continue to recommend you test those disks NOW, before you actually loose any data and while you probably still have the storage space to recover easily.

For good measure I did what you suggested. Powered the server off, mounted them on another computer and ran chkdsk on all volumes overnight. No errors detected. Its back up again and all looks well now.

Had the same problems and what it was is that a filename was longggggg (like > 250 characters) while doing a backup to the server. The console manager checks for this and reported it as Health Status Failing. I knew hard drive was ok. Running Database Repair truncates name.

I've tried the chkdsk cmd with no luck. I have 4 disks and all show healthy. I run CHKDSK and for a few hours everything is OK then the message comes back.
