Have you actually TRIED it remotely? The problem may be with the test, not the actual remote access?
Be sure to really do it remotely, NOT from within your home LAN. Try from work, a library, etc...

I am using a HP Mediasmart Server with a Netgear WNR2000 router. (Used to use a linksys with no problems but ISP give me a new router to match my new 50MB cable modem)
Remote access is my problem. HP home server reports "verifying Port forwarding for your router failed” Yet the remote access configuration , verifies and reports "available" but without changing the health at risk status. No remote access is possible. I tried turning off remotr access and then back on again. Suceeds and I briefly get a green icon before chaning back to amber after a minute or so.
I have looked at the UPnP section of the router set up and note that Ports, 80, 443 and 4125 seem to have been setup up correctly. I guess I need to change some other setting somewhere.

Thanks for your reply I'm going to try it remotely. I musd admit though I'm not hopeful because I just noticed that HP server is not showing up on iTunes on the other PCs like it use to when I was on Linksys.
Yep, you are probably right not to be overly hopeful with that additional piece of information thrown in. Still worth a quick try though! Then I suggest you do some searching and, if necessary, a post to one of the topics over at http://www.mediasmartserver.net/forums/

Thanks again. I was mistaken ITunes is showing up on the other PCs. But WHS is now alerting me that site not aviable remotely and don't get the green icon at all. I get the first green tick for local and the the 2nd green tick for configuring but a red cross when verification fails. I will have to try some more digging and another post as you suggest. I'm beginning to hate netgear products, my linksys router was a walk in the park
My first guess is to double check the firewall section on your router (where you set up port forwarding). Check that the port forwarding is pointing to the correct computer (should be to your server)... on some routers you need to specify an ip (which would be the ip of your server) and on others you specify the computer name. I've lost track of the number of times I've "forwarded the ports" to the wrong computer.
I have now checked remotely and can gain full remote access to my server, despite the health warning and amber icon. Think I'll just have to sit this one out.
There are a couple threads addressing the PP2 impacts to remote connectivity over at . You may want search them out and monitor those threads.
I agree that when things are working sometimes it is better to sit tight rather than spending a lot of time troubleshooting a false alarm.
