I am using IE8beta, on Vista SP1, and have the HP photoldr control installed and active. When I try to use it to add photos to albums, I get the dialog box with an explorer-like  folder tree in the left panel, and a blank right panel where photo shortcuts should appear.

But, the folder tree wont let me browse, view folder contents, or expand folder subtrees, etc. so it's not possible navigate folders or to select photos to be installed.

Anyone else have a similar problem with IE ActiveX plug-in for photo loading? I removed the plug-in and re-installed it, but get the same results.

I have lots of photos and lots of albums to set up, so using a browser without the activeX add-in and loading photos one by one isnt practical for me.

I was running the beta for awhile and needed to remove it as there were too many issues with webpages not working properly and activex controls not working at all. I would remove the beta and stay with IE7 for now until they fix more of the issues. I would also report the issue to Microsoft so they are aware of it.

Agree, You can try using IE8 in compatibility mode for the web page you are looking at. Otherwise, best removed and return to IE7. Too many page crashes with IE8 and other problems. Not recommended for use, and remember it is a beta after all.

Thanks, pardizzone and Titus, you fixed my problem.

ADVICE to PHOTO WEBSHARE users: the HP PhotoLdr ActiveX control for "ADD PHOTOS" in Photo Webshare will not work in IE8. USE IE7.

I believe it would be more accurate to say it will not work "in the current beta version of IE8".

I know that is what you mean, but I don't want to mislead readers of this thread xx months from now when IE8 is actually out there and when it may (I hope and expect) work!

As I post this, it is now September 2009.  It's still not fixed and I'm running Windows 7 RTM with IE8 (8.0.7600).  In fact, my symptoms are worse than described, i.e, when the ActiveX control loads the photo browser window shrinks down to an unuseable size.  Adding the home server site to compatibility mode doesn't work.  This with Power Pack 3 beta installed as well as all HP updates.

My work-around:  Since I'm using Ultimate, I have the option of installing and running Windows XP Mode.  While in the virtual Windows XP, I suppress the installation of IE8 and install IE7.  With that, I can use the activex control.

I hope this is fixed by the time Windows 7 hits retail shelves.

Addendum (9/19/2009):  It's working on my laptop.  The above-described problem is on an W7 RTM x64 installation.  My laptop is x86, also W7 RTM.   Perhaps an incompatibility with x64?  Who knows.

Just tried adding photos on Windows 7, 64 bit. As mentioned above, the active control is at an unusable small size and still very broken.

Anybody discover a workwround?

Thanks
