As you may or may not know, there is a program out there called "Accesstunes" that allows a person to stream their itunes music library (yes, protected files too as long as the remote machine is authorized) over the internet via a webpage and also via a Remote User's itunes program itself.

My question (for those more knowledgeable about the inner workings of WHS than me) is whether and how this program can be configured to run with Windows Home Server.  If it can, we can have true remote itunes streaming over the web and Itunes itself.  I have never used the program, however, the readme file on their website (www.zeleksoftware.com) indicates that the program resides on the "computer" where the library is.  (I could not tell whether Itunes actually has to be running itself on the same "computer" where the library is.)  You can log in from a webbrowser anywhere, and to use the Itunes program for receiving the remote stream, there is an add-in that must be installed on the remote machine using Itunes.  Other than that, it seems like it is a somewhat straightforward means of port forwarding/firewall issues.

If you have or can make this work with WHS, a TUTORIAL would be GREAT!

It would also seem that, since it creates a website (using your IP Address) to log in to the web browser feature, that you could add this website to your website list on your homepage using the add website add-in.

I have emailed Accesstunes about potentially providing a solution for WHS, but have not heard back from them yet.  If you are interested, let them know, and hopefully we can drum up a response.  Their email address is:  support@zeleksoftware.com .  In the alternative, if there is anyone here that could write a similar add-in for WHS, that would be great.

Update: I have spoken with the people at AccessTunes this afternoon. They said my inquiry for modifying AccessTunes for use as a WHS add-in was the first they had received. They told me that if there was enough support from the community that they would consider developing it. I asked if I could post this on the community and they agreed.

Check out AccessTunes at www.zeleksoftware.com. Again, the WHS version would be capable of using your library stored on the server and streaming it to both a web address and a remote itunes program on another computer. It would stream ALL of your itunes music files. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS PROGRAM CREATED, PLEASE EMAIL support@zeleksoftware.com AND LET THEM KNOW YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE AN ACCESSTUNES WHS ADD-IN CREATED.

I got the impression that they are interested in creating the add-in but they want to be sure that the community will support it. Tell your friends and please email. Thanks.

I have just today exchanged emails with the people at zeleksoftware, the developers of accesstunes. The inside scoop is that they are looking at the program to see what modifications can be made to work in its current state with WHS . They said if they modified it to work with WHS, they would post a tutorial and such for easy installation and use and make it known to the community. They also said that if there was a big response from the WHS community that they may develop an add-in specifically for WHS.

This is great news. It will give us TRUE Itunes webstreaming (DRM included). It is like Simplify Media (i.e., remote itunes interface) PLUS the ability to use through any web browser. No word on time-frames or whether this will occur 100%, but it certainly looks promising. Again, if interested in seeing this program, please email them and let them know that there is demand for the program.
