Is there anyway for Webshare to access the shared photos folder directly. I have thousands of photos that i'd like to be able to share through webshare but it looks like the only options is to import them. That would mean i have 30gb of photos sitting twice on the same box

I suppose it may be possible to point the \webshare folder to photos but i want control over what photos appear and what don't.

Seems strange to potentially have duplicates of all yout photos (in addition to folder duplication for redundancy)

Perhaps i am missing something :-)

I suspect that with the right internal knowledge and some hacking this would be "possible" but I have never heard of anyone actually doing this. (Would love to find a way tho!)

You might want to explore using the WHIIST Add-In or ASP.net. The former is easier but the latter is more flexible and "complete". For some guidance on the latter check out this thread: http://www.mediasmartserver.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1117&hilit=ASP.net

The "Webguide" add-in allows you to do this and might suit your situation. You can share Photos, Music and Video directly from the shares. The problem with sharing folders on your server directly is that you need to give out server usernames and passwords. I use a single username and password with read access only to media for family visitors. Download it at

http://www.asciiexpress.com/webguide/homeserver.aspx

Webshare will allow you share photos and videos and set up accounts which are independent of system access and manages its own protection domains and I find very convenient for notification and fine grained sharing of media among a larger group than trusted close family. It also offers a slideshow feature not available in Webguide.

Here's another that was recently pointed out on the "other" board:

See the actual referenced post here, along with a link to an actual homeserver example:

Has me re-thinking my choice...!
