I had simular issue with McAfee, I also have the 2MB memory upgrade along with the processor upgrade as well. Make sure you install McAfee through the Windows Home Server Console, at the settings and then add-ins. I tried to install the McAfee firewall and every thing went to hell HP tech said that a big no no.

Has anyone else had any problems installing McAfee Total Protection?
I installed it a week ago and my MSS Crashed with a red OS light.
After a restore I decided to install McAfee before putting any data on the server. Low and behold, after a restart the server crashed again with a flashing blue OS light and wouldn't boot up.
NOTES: I had also installed a memory upgrade so it could have been this but the MSS didn't crash as soon as I'd recovered it? (http://www.mediasmarthome.com/blog/entry/10779/HP-Announces-Policy-Change-Regarding-MediaSmart-Server-Memory-Upgrades/;jsessionid=5BC1EB3714DCA24FC4D7F21392A97D77#1729)
Anyone?
I tried to install McAfee via the console and it didn't work so I had to uninstall it manually.
I also tried installing it via the direct push option on the www.mcafeeasap.com website and that failed as well.
On my 3rd server re-build I ditched the McAfee and went for Avast Windows Home Server Edition and it's working great!
NOTES: I went into the Software folder and into add-ons and removed the McAfee msi instillation programme to stop the console reminding me every 5 minutes!
Server's been running sweet for a few days now so I'm sticking to it.
Going to try and re-install the memory upgrade tomorrow and see what happens.
You also state you installed the memory upgrade. I had no issues with McAfee on my system before my memory upgrade. I then installed the 2GB G.Skill chip and my server was periodically crashing. Either the chip was bad or not necessarily as compatible as it needs to be. I returned it and got the Crucial 2GB chip and its been fine ever since. This may not be your issue, but I figured I would mention it in case.
