I keep reading in the articles about upgrading the RAM in an EX470, that after installing it one needs to change the Paging values;.  This done by going to My Computer\Properties\Advanced System Properties\Performance\Settings.  I only find the hard drives listed on my physical computer.  Also, when I just open MYComputer I do not see the drive letter assingned to my EX470.  How do I get it to show up?  I think itprobably is drive M:, but am not sure of this.  Any help would be appreciated.  It may be anmapping issue???

Thanks

Marv

First, remember that this is done via RDP into the MSS, not on your client. (From your reference to "drive M:" it appears you may not be in the MSS.)

RIGHT-Click on MyComputer and then select properties -- you will NOT see the disks. Also be sure to do this on the actual My Computer, not on a shortcut to it.

From the client you will NOT see a "drive assigned to [your] EX470". You access the shares through the "Shared Folders on Server" icon on the desktop. And it is recommended that you access things that way rather than mapping the drive -- although that is not always possible.

Thanks John for getting me on track with this. I tried it and it worked great!
I will make a note of it.

Thanks again....Marv

For anyone who has not done the ram upgrade, you are really missing out!  Makes a huge difference on the speed and was much easier to do than I originally thought it would be.  As a matter of fact, it was so easy, I went to Fry's electronics, found the LE-1640 processor for $44.00 and upgraded that as well.  My MSS not only runs faster now but cooler as well.

Much thanks to whoever wrote the wonderful walk throughs for both of those upgrades.  They were both extremely helpful and simplified the entire process! Laughing

Just completed the memory upgrade. Boy was I surprised. From the time I started step one till I replaced the lid was only 20 minutes. Confession, I really didn't time it because I figured it would take a good while and the use of a few not so nice words and phrases. But, it couldn't have been more than 20 mins! Many, many thanks to Donavon for the great directions.

Oh yeah, I also changed the paging size as recommended.

Has anyone had trouble with this?

I followed the guide at :
Upgrade the Memory in your HP EX470 or EX475
http://www.homeserverhacks.com/2007/12/upgrade-memory-in-your-hp-ex470.html
and everything went pretty well, even undoing the little screws.

But now when I put it all back and fire it up all I get is a purple / red flashing health status light and cannot log in at all (Drive lights flas red once but then go out)

Any suggestions??

Since my upgrade was painless I didn't have to do any problem solving but having gone through the process, I would think most problems would have something to do with the backplane and the wiring. I would check to make sure the backplane is securely seated and the wire connections are securely connected and not crossed.

Make sure you re-installed the plugs at thetop of the backplane correctly. Also check the backplane to make sure that nothing caught on something and broke off. (At least one person broke off a capacitor doing this.)

It is also possible that the memory you installed was bad. This has happened to a couple folks. If none of the above help, re-install your original memory. If that works I would RMA the old memory.
