Hi Guys,

I'm very impressed with the reviews I've read regarding the HP MediaSmart Connect x280n and would like to know if anyone knows when the scheduled release in the UK is.

If there is none, is there a way i can import one from the US? I went through the process of ordering from Amazon earlier tonight only to be rejected when I entered my address.Frown

Export laws might delay this product to the UK. However an Xbox360 works great. I use two of them as media extenders. One wired, one wireless and they both stream HD content with excellent picture quality.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for replying.

I read somewhere that the xbox was a bit noisy, is this true and also how well does it integrate with the MediaSmart Server? I was hoping maybe that my TV would become like a monitor and that I would be able view my emails and webcams on it and other stuff like that.

I don't think there are any plans to introduce the product outside of the US.

While the power supply is universal, the Connect supports only NTSC (component or HDMI), which means you need a multi-standard TV. Also the Cinemanow service will not work outside of the US.

As another poster mentioned, the xbox360 is probably a very good alternative.

Hi Guys,

The connector arrived today but I can't try it out as it has an American plug, does anyone know where I can get an adaptor or similar power lead.

I believe the power adaptor is already 100-220 V (but do check!).

Then you only need a plastic adaptor so it can fit in your power outlet, available in most travel stores.

Just cut the plug and buy a new one that will fit your outlet.
are you sure that its ready for 220V ?

Hi Kriller,

Couldn't do that, it's not just a plug, more of a transformer.

I got an adapter from my local electrical store that works well and I'm very impressed with the connector, just what I was looking for. Smile

ah, ok now I get it,

Does it stream live TV ?

Yes, it is rated 100-240V

You simply need  plastic power adaptor.

For European usage, the main concern is that you need a multi-standard TV with component or HDMI input. It only supports NTSC.

Yes, provided you a Vista (Home Premium or Ultimate PC) with a TV tuner.
