I've noticed that servers have an uncanny ability to reappear after being

removed from my MediaSmart Connect device.

Case 1 - Steps

1. Remove a server (e.g. I removed my pc).

2. Press on/off on the remote causing the Connect device to 'sleep'

3. Press on/off again to wake it up

The server is back.

 Case 2 - Steps

1. Remove a server -- the pc

2. Power off the pc

3. Power the pc back on

4. The server re-appears in the Media Connect server list

I assume that what happensis in case 1 it's doing a refresh as it wakes up.

And in case 2 its getting an event that there is a server appearing.

What is frustrating is that I have explicitly excluded those servers and expect them

to stay that way until I hit refresh. In fact it actually tells me the servers will stay

gone until i hit refresh.

Is anyone else seeing this?

Is there any way to keep the servers gone.

Thanks.

There are two ways to remove a server.

a) Stop serving! This may be not very practical though if you want the server to stream to other clients, but not the Connect, then

b) Most servers have a list of "allowed" clients to stream. Simply don't allow any streaming to the Connect.  In PCs, simply open WMP11 and disable the Connect.

Some good tips but some questions:

1. Why is the remove server not keeping it removed. Is this a known bug?

2. The MediaSmart Home server shows up as two servers
1) PV Connect 2) Windows Media Connect.
On the home server is WMP 10 - its what came with it.

In the server console I can indicate media receivers for PV Connect but I
definitely don't want to block the Connect device because that would leave
only Windows Media Connector which is only making some of the files available
(i.e. omits some music).

I didn't see any obvious way in the console etc. to stop windows media connect.
Perhaps i need more coffee today.

Under MSS Server settings, disable the default streaming server (WMC). This will leave only the PVConnect server as the main streaming server.

Thanks TV Guy (tm) I shall try it tonight.

Question of the oracle... should i try and upgrade my MSS to WMP 11 and use it as the mechanism for sharing instead of presumable WMC or PVC .
The comments above suggest I might able to get genre and other stuff if I switch it over.

I doubt it will solve my never appearing itunes playlist issue :( .

Hi TV Guy

I tried what the steps and it didn't help. Here specifically is what i did

Attempt 1
1. Open MediaSmart Console
2. Click settings in the top right
3. Turned off all media sharing. (note that pv connect also shows up in the same
settings dialog and I left that enabled)
4. Exit/Save/Restarted my home server
5. On MediaSmart Connect I did refresh servers.
Both PV Connect and Windows Media Connect servers show up.

Attempt
1. Remote desktop into the MediaSmart home server
2. My Computer > Manage > Services
3. Find Windows Media Connect
4. Stop the service

Immediately at this point the two servers if visible on you rtv via
media home connect went gray.

If I did a refresh both PV Connect and Windows Media Connect Vanished.

This is more of a MSS issue than MSC issue. From what you say, PV and WMC servers are inter-related; it is either both up or both down, which should not be the case.  Remember, if you turn-off a server, it does take some time for MSC to get up to date.

I still believe you should be able to have only the PV server running on the MSS.

I took the advice in the forum and slapped WMP 11 onto my media smart home server. So I am happy to remove PV and turn of Windows Media Connect.
Streaming is starting get happier :)

We have two Mediasmart Servers on our single home-network.

One is pre-PowerPack1, the other is post-PowerPack1.

Before the PowerPack1 arrived, the first server was turned ON for Media Library Sharing (thru server console). Then came PowerPack1 - We installed PV Connect - We turned OFF Media Library Sharing. But, the Media Connect continued showing up on all our DLNA Clients.

Then, We got our 2nd server. We installed PV Connect directly (WITHOUT turning on Media Library Sharing).

The difference: DLNA Clients see only PV Connect from the 2nd server - but, both PV Connect and Windows Media Connect from 1st server.

I hope, this gives some clue.

I suspect that you need to upgrade the PP1 unit to PP2 so that you have connector software that is compatible with both units.
