I have an AppleTV and to stream to it, iTunes has to be running.  I was wondering if I could install it on the MediaSmart server and have it run there 24/7.  Any thoughts?  Thank you.

Your music collection can sit in the shared folders, sure.

Yes, that's where I have it now. iTunes is on my laptop and my movie/music collection is on the MediaSmart server. But to use Apple TV, iTunes has to be running on my laptop (to watch streamed movies rather than those stored on the Apple TV).

But what I'm asking is if I can actually sownload and isntall iTunes on my server and have it running ther 24/7 rather than have to start up iTunes on my laptop.
