My Pavillion Seagate 4200.2 100gb hard drive has died (at least I think that is my problem). Is it possible to replace my computer's hard drive with a bigger model, and still use the back-up from the mediasmart to restore my operating system? Or must I replace the hard drive with the exact model, down to the same make, rpm, memory etc?

You don't have to put the same make/model in.

You should be able to restore the PC to a different disk, no proble.

To do a full PC restore you need to prepare a recovery CD. You then boot the fixed machine with that CD and the dialogs will lead you finding the server on the network, select your backup and start the restore process. If you installed PP1 on your MSS you must burn a new recovery CD - PP1 came with a new ISO image.

You do need to know what type of drive to replace, the most common drives are SATA or eSATA.
