I don't think you can find the 2006 (37") models and there was no plan to update those to extender mode (hardware limitations).
You may still be able to find a few floor models in Costco for the 2008 models - great price and value if you can find them.

I was so excited to see the features of the Mediasmart HDTV's. It is perfect for what I'm wanting to do for 1 TV in my house. But, when I went online to find out more direct info, including pricing I can't find much of anything. On HP's website it says that they are sold in select Costco stores, so I called my local Costco and they said that they had been pulled off of the price lists. I called the HP presales and no one there has a clue + they don't even sell them themselves direct anymore -"only Big Box stores" said the guy, well BestBuy, Circuit City, Frys and Costco don't sell them so who does? Seems like only Amazon and a few niche online retailers have them. If HP isn't even direct selling them anymore isn't that a really bad sign?
I was considering buying a slightly older model (The 37") and was hoping that they would update it to have the Media Center Extender functionality. All apperances to me is that they are possibly discontinuing the line altogether so I'm sure that they won't be updating the older models either.
Does anyone know what the deal is?

I found a 37" refurb for just a couple hundred dollars that I am considering but I'm really hesitant to buy that or one of the new ones considering no one seems to be carrying them. Is HP going to stop making, selling, or supporting them? I'm worried that if I buy one it will be useless after Media Center updates and service packs etc.. As cool as it is, from where I'm looking from it looks like this is going to be a dead product soon.
So my main question remains - Is HP not making TV's (in particular the Media Smart TV's) anymore? If they are where are you supposed to go to check one out before you buy one?
It looks like it. I just bought 2 at discounted prices. They work perfectly, by the way.
