Hi, I've got a MSS with two client computers, both running Vista.  Everything has been working just fine for the last few months.  I've installed the final PP1.  Then last week I accidentally deleted a couple of music files.  So I logged into the console, brought up the lastest backup and opened it.  The progress bar made it to 79% and my computer blue screened and rebooted.  Tried about 5 times, same thing every time.  I know I've opened backups in the past but the last one may have been during the PP1 beta.  My other computer experiences the exact same problem, open a backup and it will blue screen at 79%.

Anyone seen this before?  Any chance this could have started with the final PP1?  Or the HP 1.3 update?  Or maybe it's a Vista problem?  When's the last time YOU tried opening a backup?

I was hoping this was a limited problem but I've since found other people with similar blue screen problems when trying to open a backup.

P.S. - It's a stock MSS, no "upgrades."  Only addins installed are AutoExit 2008 and Microsoft WHS Toolkit.

Can also repro the exact behaviour as above, blue screen at 79%.. Any solution to this?

My MSS is not "stock" as I have 2GB, an LE-1640, 500GB System Drive, 2x1TB for data, a 500GB drive out of the pool for backup and a lot of Add-Ins.

I have NO problem getting past that 79%, although there is a significant "pause" in the progress at that point.

That said, I do NOT have any insight as to the problem. If you do not get a response here you might try over on http://www.mediasmartserver.net/forums/

For my particular situation, the problem went away by itself. I don't know if it was a single backup that was corrupt and was crashing the computers. But roughly two weeks later, I can open backups fine and I can't find the "problem" one.

I had your exact problem. I posted my problem on the Microsoft forums and got a quick response to my problem. It required a hotfix.....here's the answer that solved my problem:
